your daily dose of girls basketball news & information
Again I am reporting on these games to compare/contrast the level and numbers with what you see in the HS games. I can analyze these games with the magic of the play by play even though I am not there.
CHICAGO sky 78, MINNESOTA lynx 72
Again here are the salient points I dug up:
1. START ME UP?: Minnesota again got a slow start in both the first and second quarters and that doomed their chances in this contest. In the first quarter they were 1/10, while in the second quarter they were 2/10 on their first ten possessions. That means the Lynx were at a 25.0 pp100 and .150 floor %---both below freezing and no where near the gold standard of 100 pp100 and .500 floor %. The Lynx didn't get their first field goal until the 2:38 mark of the first quarter. The score was 20-4 before that moment.
Chicago was 135.0 pp100 and .600 floor % and outscored the Lynx 27-5.
The Rest of the game Minnesota won 67-51 and had a pp100 of 115.5, and floor % of .603. They are just not that far away really from doing good things.
2. WHERE ARE THE OTHER TWO STARTERS?: Three starters scored for the Lynx. That is an ongoing problem. In the last five games their are two starters (different each game) that can't find the bottom of the basket or are no threat. The point totals for the five games are 0-0-4-6-0 for starters 4 and 5.
On top of that in the 2nd quarter only Augustus was able to score from the floor, only three Lynxsters were able to score in the first half from the floor. Balance, Balance, Balance.
In the WNBA, College, and even at the HS level you need to have someone step up. Opportunity is knocking can anyone answer the door?
3: LAY UPS: This actually was fairly tight with Chicago holding an 11-9 edge. But in a tight game like this that is four points too many.
