ROGERS BREAKDOWN TIP OFF
ROGERS panthers 48, FERGUS FALLS otters 26

Rogers extreme speed and quickness prevent Fergus Falls to get any normal flow going in a drought filled game for the Otters. FF scored the first points of the game, but after that they were few and far between. FF had droughts of 8, and 7 in the first half. Slashing and Dashing Casey Mann and Jennifer Dowd created havoc and when Rogers got possession of the ball they turned on the afterburners.

FF scored firest for their only lead of the night on their second possession. Rogers had a 6-0 run while FF settled in for a frigid 8 possession drought. Erin Morstad knocked down a trey from the left wing to break the cycle to make it 6-5. Rogers soon had it back to 12-6 with a runner by Dowd and a put back by Amanda Chesness. FF took a time out to get something going, but their next possession ended up with a missed shot. When Rogers didn't have the shot they worked it around their half court system. One possession had 24 Rogers touches before a missed shot by Heather Brunn. But a good minute was taken off the clock, but more importantly, Rogers was in total command of how the game was going to be played. Hannah Draxten, the Iowa recruit, was frustrated and tried to force things offensively. FF fell into another 7 possession drought at this time. Rogers held a 24-11 lead at the half.

To open the second half Rogers scored on their first three possessions with three different children doing the damage to make it 32-13. FF's best offensive sequence came late in the game with a 4/6 sequence. It started with a three point play on a Lexi Moon drive plus free throw. Draxten scored her only points of the second half to close the sequence. In fact it closed the scoring in the game as neither team scored the last 2:54.

Heather Brunn 4, 3, 133.3, .333 The underlooked third amigo in the Mann-Dowd-Brunn connection. There probably isn't a better combo of guards in AAA. all are fast, fast, quick, quick and pesky. strong legs. RF: height
Jennifer Dowd, 12, 16, 75.0, .313 see above plus has extensive successful varsity experience. wise beyond her age. understands the game and is aware of teammates and situations. outrebounds bigger players on her own team. RF: see above.
Casey Mann 12, 16, 75.0, .375 see above #2, but more to the point is the more aggressive of the three taking a 1 on 4 situation in the full court and making it a 1 on 3, 1 on 2 1 on 1 as she blows by folks to destination basket. RF: see above plus prone to pick up charging calls. Also had all 12 of her points in the first half.
Camille Loughlin 6, 7, 85.7, .429 scored in the paint. RF: could rebound more, needs to make the free throw when given the chance for a three point play.
Amanda Chesness 10, 5, 200.0, .800 the guards may get all the sizzle, but Chesness is also a solid player making good decisions and today delivered. more quickness. RF: maybe too few possessions.

BY THE NUMBERS
Rogers 48, 56, 85.7, .375
Fergus Falls 26, 58, 44.8, .224
Rogers took apart a decent FF team with their suffocating defense forcing them to do unnatural things leading to easy points for Rogers. But if you look at the numbers you see that Rogers on offense wasn't exactly ripping it up either. I think we can chalk it up to early season play. Defense rules, offense will follow in due course.
