WATSON'S SEASON OVER
Kellie Watson, Ionia junior all stater has ended her season and will have surgery on her right shoulder. Apparently the injury occurred in softball. She will miss the rest of this season and the softball season as well. Watson has over 1000 points as a junior, and was averaging 23.9 ppg.
In another injury note in Michigan Freshman Taylor Johnson of Belding is done for the year and had knee surgery. She was scoring 17 ppg when injured.
Linnea Henkels, SW Star, MN broke her ankle and won't be able to take the court until January.
MORE VERBALS
The verbals are now falling like leaves. Here are two MN players that have recently made verbals:
Heather Smith, Mahtomedi has made a verbal to Liberty University. The 5-9 point guard averaged 10.4 ppg last year for the 13-15 Zephyrs. Liberty is a D1 school in the Big South Conference.
Kelsey Carlson, Concordia Roseville has made a verbal to Vanguard University. The 5-11 forward averaged 8.7 ppg on the 20-7 Beacons last year. Vanguard University is in Southern California and is a NAIA member in the Golden State Athletic Conference.
Both played for the MN Stars AAU program and it makes 7 players in the 2007 class to verbal, plus two more in 2008 for a grand total of 9. That now makes 23 MN 2007s that have made verbals.
Courtney Egge, Stanley, ND has made a verbal to Jamestown. The 5-11, forward averaged 20.1 ppg and 10.2 rpg last year for the 14-8 Blue Jays. Egge is the fourth ND 2007 player to verbal.
GATEWAY SEASON OVER
Gateway, a charter school in Michigan is facing budget problems and has cut athletics. The girls season will be done after tonight's game with West MI Academy. Story from the Grand Rapids Press.
POWER IS BACK
Mike Power is back at Briar Cliff where he led the Chargers to a 37-1 finish in 1996. Power then went to Metro State, Bemidji State and SW MN State before return to the scene of former triumphs. One of his players is Mel Shidell, Andover, MN who is out right now with a toe injury. From the Sioux City Journal.
ALYSSA DE HAAN
Alyssa DeHaan, the 6-9 freshman for Michigan State is featured in the Michigan State News. DeHaan has added 30 pounds to her frame already.
WISCONSIN'S FRONT COURT
Badger Coach Lisa Stone is happy to have depth up front this season. From the Capital Times. They have 6-2 Brittany Heins from Postville, IA; and Mariah Dunham from Watertown, WI who can play anywhere, plus junior Ivana Mijalcevic a 6-3 player from Ripanj, Serbia who was at Colby, KS CC.
WHITTEMORE-PRESCOTT
Whittemore-Prescott is a force in the Northeast Michigan conference long dominated by two others. This is WP's second year in the league. Story from the Bay City Times.
CLINTON SWITCHING CONFERENCES
Clinton will leave the Lenawee County Athletic Association and join the Tri-County Conference in 2007-2008. From the Tecumseh Herald.
SLEEP OVER
Ankeny recently had their annual sleepover fundraiser. Younger players got a chance interact with the older players. More in the Des Moines Register.
