MN FALL LEAGUE
RED DIVISION
Lakeville North 33, Bloomington Jefferson 30

In a low scoring affair LN edged BJ 33-30. LN didn't get out of the single digits as they trailed at half 14-9. Cassie Rochel opened the scoring with a shot near the 3 point line as she showed off her range. LN did a strict platoon system five minutes on, five minutes off in the 20 minute running time halves. Rochel and Sygulla, the dynamic duo, were split. Neither team had an outstanding first half. LN did have a 10 possession drought and BJ added 7 during that stretch. LN only had two field goals in the first half, but BJ only had two more. Part of the problem in these fall leagues is the slow clock draining free throws. That is one reason the score was so low. I am not going to credit defense for it.

The second half had more action, and, even though it wasn't an artistic event, a compelling finish. BJ held the lead until 8:11 left in the game. That is when Kaiya Sygulla dropped two free throws after being fouled. LN had a 4/5 possession scoring streak and an 8-2 run as they led 24-21. But Sarah Schoeneck carried Jefferson and dragged Jefferson back into the lead. She also showed off her range and two possessions later was fouled and made a free throw, one possession later it was two more free throws. So Schoeneck personally had five straight points to put BJ up 28-27. Then at the two minute mark LN decided to finish the game Rochel came back in to pair the Sygulla the Nails and Rail connection. And they immediately connected after a Sygulla steal. Rochel was fouled as she scored. She missed the free throw, but got the board. LN milked the clock and Sygulla was fouled. She too missed the toss and she too got the board. Eventually another LN player (#24) was fouled and this time it was Latasha Wittmeyer who got the rebound breaking the pattern. She missed the shot, and BJ21 got the board she made two free throws and BJ was up 30-29. Rochel scored from Wittmeyer on the next LN possession, the start of three straight. Wittmeyer and Sygulla added a free throw each as LN won 33-30.

BY THE NUMBERS
Lakeville North 33, 49, 67.3, .367
Bloomington Jefferson 30, 48, 62.5, .333
With so many unknown players (probably jv players looking for time) the numbers were pretty low. Splitting Rochel & Sygulla, a good move to develop players, also drove the pp100 and floor % numbers down.
