MN FALL LEAGUE
RED DIVISION
Burnsville 53, Holy Angels 44

The first half was nip and tuck as no team could get beyond a three point lead. Burnsville opened scoring on their first possession as Abby Rittenhouse (heading to St. Cloud State) scored on a free throw. Rittenhouse scored the first four points (three possessions) for Bville. HA led 13-10 but then went into a six possession drought. Raechel Moen was the only one that scored (on free throws) during that stretch for Burnsville. It did put the blaze back in the lead. In fact Burnsville scored 10 straight points at the line. No one missed. After a Rittenhouse postup from Kelsey Marks? Burnsville led 20-17. Kaitlin Robinson? made five straight points for Holy Angels. She made two free throws followed by an old fashioned 3 point play. With HA up 22-20 Marks drained a three to put Burnsville in the lead. On their next possession Moen hit one free throw as she missed her only free throw of the day. Burnsville led 24-22 at half.

In the first four scoring possession (not possessions themselves) HA knocked down three 3 pointers: Robinson, Slawson and #53 all caught 3 fever. HA led 33-31 at this point. Both teams added baskets with HA leading 35-33. But a new facet in the Burnsville attack--the transition game--made its presence felt as Safranski scored on Dove's pass after a steal. Burnsville ripped off seven straight scoring possessions that decided the contest. It started with a Wiens 3 from the left corner. That gave Burnsville the lead which they held for the rest of the game. The next three scores for Bville were transition variety. Rittenhouse made an old fashioned 3 on possesson five. Marks and Rittenhouse added two free throws each in the next possessions to make it 49-38. HA never mounted a serious challenge. The game seesawed between 11 & 9 after that. The last scoring, appropriately enough, came from the line off the hands of Moen 53-44.

BY THE NUMBERS
Burnsville 53, 47, 112.8, .553
Holy Angels 44, 48, 91.7, .417
made free throws: Burnsville 23, Holy Angels 8
Even with the free throw stoppages the action didn't drag.

Both teams played a game that meant something to both. There was electricity in the air. They both gave it a great shot. Both teams played tough defense with HA putting in a variety of presses. That didn't slow Burnsville down. They were strong with the ball, made good decisions, didn't force action. If Bville continues to play as efficiently as they did today they will cause problems in the minefield they call the Lake Conference. Next will be Central and Kennedy next weekend.

I am sorry these games were late. Most of the day I was putting the finishing touches on the MN book. It is at the printers. More about that later.

Next up: tomorrow morning.
