This game took place on Saturday, March 31, 2007
ALL CITY BALLERS AAU TOURNAMENT
at Robbinsdale MS
MIDTOWN lady monarchs 52,
KENYON-WANAMINGO knights 31

This game was delayed due to the change of schedules. KW was originally scheduled for a 1:45 game and didn't show up until after the new start time. Midtown was playing the All City Ballers Boys team waiting for KW to show. Once they did KW had to get into game mode quickly. They were not used to the lines on the court as they picked up two straight turnovers stepping and dribbling too wide on the floor. The Midtown youngsters jumped out early to a 6-0 lead as Marissa Janning opened scoring with a rebound and coast to coast lay up. Three possessions later she scored on a cut to the basket off a pass from Ellie Zeller. Midtown thouroughly dominated early stretching the lead to 22-4. KW had an 8 possession drought. The Lady Monarchs were helped in part by two straight 3s by Janning and then three possessions later another three by Aisha Hill. Diamond Lane added the final three to make it 20-4. KW did close out the half with a 12-8 run with six points coming off second chance points. Whitney Ryan had 7 points for KW. Janning had 8 for Midtown at half. Midtown led 30-16 at half.

Midtown scored the first 8 points of the second half off their half court patterns, their defense with steals and rebound fast breaks, and in and out game. Midtown scored on 5/6 of their first possessions in the second half. KW did have a 9 possession drought later in the second half. Midtown stretched the lead to 48-22 with about five minutes left. KW did put together a four possession sequence with a 9-2 run. But even with the run the game was decided. Midtown walked away with a 52-31 win.

The youngsters took down the 16u team with better execution, quicker, faster more aggressive players, and a game under their belt. Midtown has no fear of going after bigger fish. KW did have two varsity players (Ryan and Lurken) that played a good deal on varsity this season. I am sure that the Midtowners will be having varsity looks come fall.
