THE AAU WEEK THAT WAS #2

Games were only held on Saturday last week and the big heavy hitters were off until this big event week so things were a bit slow. Take the limited schedule and mix in power teams versus school teams and the results were as expected.

The MYAS Gopher State Spring basketball events are all running time, which makes for fast games.

TEAM OF THE WEEK
It was basically a two team race since I only saw two games. The Minneapolis Lady Cats 14u team gets the nod. They averaged 61.7 and gave up 16 going 3-0 last weekend. Their speed and quickness caused all their opponents problems. They topped the pp100 at 145.1, the highest I have seen. Of course it was primarily lay up practice. I know they played school teams, but so did the other teams I saw this week. I see they are the 10th seed in next weeks tournament at Champlin Park. Mistake.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Sarina Baker of the Mpls Lady Cats takes the honor. Again she plays hard all the time and she delivers. She is quick, tough nosed, physical, and aggressive. She can score outside and in and has good court awareness.

Here is how this team was selected. #1 I had to see the player during the week. #2. player had to have at least an average of seven possessions per game (AAU plays more people than HS so the possession number is lowered), plus running time really limits possessions. #3 player had to average better than 100 pp100 and .500 to make the top list. If I saw two or more games, then that player's average is factored in. I am looking for consistency, and consistenly good top level performances. This week only five players are named due to the small amount of games covered.
Sarina Baker, (DeLaSalle), Mpls Lady Cats
Hailey Barnes (North St. Paul), North St. Paul
Alycia Dahl (Northern) MN Stars Smith
Elissa Henderson (Mpls Roosevelt), Mpls Lady Cats
Tyisha Smith (Mpls South), Mpls Lady Cats

DEFENSIVE TEAM
Nicole Anderson, (Cannon Falls), MN Stars Smith
Sarina Baker, (DeLaSalle), Mpls Lady Cats
Aubrey Davis, (Bloomington Kennedy), Mpls Lady Cats captain
