CHASKA hawks 59, ROSEMOUNT irish 55

Chaska turned a 7 point deficit with 7:45 to go into a 59-55 win at home over Rosemount in another game in the Lake Conference tour. Courtney Boylan had 19 points to lead Chaska to victory.

Chaska went with the 3 ball early as they hit two 3s in their first two possessions with Carly Blackowiak striking first, and then Boylan drilling from the top of the key. A put back by Jessie Miller gave Chaska an 8-0 lead with 15:43 to go. Rosemount then went on a 10-0 with a 5/6 scoring sequence. Michelle Hugelen got things rolling with two field goals. Chaska followed with seven unanswered points to lead 17-10. Both teams traded five possession droughts. Chaska maintained the lead the rest of the half and led 25-21 at the break.

Rosemount came out of halftime with a 10-0 run with a 5 of 6 scoring sequence to grab a 31-26 lead, the last six of which were scored by Maggie Bauernfeind, four of which were the result of turnovers and lay ups. The Irish built the lead up to 41-34 after a Karna Bostrom steal and lay up. That is when Chaska started its comeback. Courtney Boylan was fouled on a drive and scored the first free throw. Chaska scoring sequence was 8/9 with the last six in a row and what was a seven point deficit became a 52-45 lead on an 18-4 run. A key part of that run happened when Bauernfeind was sitting for Rosemount. Courtney Boylan's hands were involved with six points from her own hand, plus four assists that led to 10 more points. The only two points in the run that didn't have her mark was a pair of free throws by Briana Tisch after she was fouled on a put back attempt of her own miss which was delivered by Boylan. Rosemount closed to 55-53 with 1:48 to go. Bauernfiend forced a travel by Boylan, but they never got a shot on that possession. Boylan made the steal. Neither team scored on their next possessions. Boylan added two free throws with slightly under a minute to go. She added another to make it a five point game with 42.3 to go. Karna Bostrom scored from the left corner to make it 58-55 with 22.8 to go. Miller added an all important free throw to make it a two possession game with 22.8 to go. Bauernfiend missed her 3 attempt and Kendra Heitkamp got the rebound, but stepped out of bounds to hand the ball back. Boylan tried to run the baseline to avoid Hugelen when it was not permitted. But the time left stood at 4.5 seconds left, and Chaska let Rosemount shoot their 3 with out fouling.

Chaska used a multitude of defenses; Rosemount stuck with man. Both needed work. Chaska allowed too many second shots on the night. Rosemount didn't have their knees bent, were too high and were beat on ball fakes and drives early in the first half. Offensively both teams were more efficient in the second half. Both teams needed their point guards in to run efficiently. Chaska ran their offense primarily on the perimeter. Rosemount looked to go inside.

One interesting factor in the game was the foul situation. In the first half Chaska out fouled Rosemount at one point 8-2. It was flopped in the second half with 9-3 Rosemount in the lead in a category that is not good to lead in.

Rosemount was without the services of Megan Eul. She is wearing a boot and won't be back until after the first of the year.
