ROOSEVELT FALL LEAGUE
HOPKINS royals 37, TOTINO-GRACE eagles 22

Hopkins beat Totino-Grace in the first Saturday in the Roosevelt Fall League 37-22. Kara Elofson, playing in her first contest since the Ohio incident, had 14 points for the Royals and four D Wraps.

This was the opening day of the fall leagues, and the newest of the bunch at that. Roosevelt is running their events on Saturday mornings, and they opened on probably a hard sell Saturday as it is Labor Day Saturday. However the crowds at Roosevelt were good. The pp100 and execution wasn't as good as the crowds.

Hopkins had their main core at the game, TG did not. The problems with fall leagues---horrible uniforms, spotty attendance, other player commitments---were evident today. What also was evident was the turnovers. Hopkins forced 12 TG turnovers in the first half, and added 8 in the second half.

The Royals started off strong with six points in their first four possessions, but then Hopkins had a five possession drought. TG didn't score on their first five possessions, four of which ended as turnovers. TG later had a 14 possession drought. Besides the turnovers, free throw shooting was off or awful in the first half. Hopkins checked in with 4/11 or .364. TG didn't get to the line. Hopkins improved somewhat at the line in the second half. The Royals were 5/9 (.556). At halftime it was Hopkins up 20-9. There was no real mystery which team was going to win.

Before charting the Hopkins/TG game I caught a few minutes of the Burnsville vs Minneapolis South contest won by the Blaze 40-39 in overtime. Tayler Hill was playing for the Tigers, but Tyisha Smith wasn't there.
