COACHING NEWS
Kalamazoo Central has hired John Buchanan as girls varsity basketball coach. From the Kalamazoo Gazette.

TRANSFER
Lacey Lyons has transferred from Coastal Carolina to Winthrop. Lyons led CC with 12.5 ppg last year. Both are D1 schools. From Myrtle Beach Online.

OLYMPICS
Katie Smith had 5, and Seimone Augustus 4 as the Americans beat Russia 67-52. Becky Hammon of South Dakota (not South Ossetia) had 3 points.

ATHLETE OF THE YEAR
Kami Kuhlmann of Charter Oak-Ute, Iowa is the Omaha World Herald's Female Athlete of the Year. Kuhlmann is headed to Northwestern, IA for college.

HALL OF FAME
Carolyn (Frisk) Capriglione Stillwater grad of 1989 will be inducted into the St. Croix Valley Athletic Hall of Fame on September 17. Frisk was Minnesota's Miss Basketball in 1988. From the Stillwater Gazette.
