NDSCS wildcats 77, CENTRAL LAKES raiders 35

This officially opens up the winter 2007-08 season on the out & about circuit and right now the only games around are Community college. NDSCS used their fast break game, quickness, and physical front line to more than double up Central Lakes. It was NDSCS's 6th game of the year and Central Lakes first contest. Also NDSCS is a D1 team in the Community College division and ranked 30th in the nation, Central Lakes is a D3 team. Games are 20 minute halves with a 30 second shot clock.

Coach Teas & I took off from the Metro close to 4:40, but got caught in rush hour and arrived partway into the game. It was 6-0 when we took our seats. There was a pretty good crowd at Central Lakes (in Brainerd). It was elementary school night as it turns out. Once we found our seats Central Lakes scored their first two points. But CL had problems all night with their offense. They were only 1 for 16 in their next sequences which put them at a frigid .063 floor percentage and 12.5 pp100. NDSCS played a tight man defense, and CL was out sized inside. Their outside shooting was not sharp and the Raiders were usually limited to one chance per possession. In the first half NDSCS had 8 points in transition and 9 on second chancers. It was 30-18 at half time.

It was more of the same in the second half but more so. NDSCS ran at every chance they could--off turnovers, missed shots, and made shots. Their deeper bench meant fresher legs. NDSCS scored 12 points on transition, and 18 points came directly inside. The quicker guards broke down the defense and were able to penetrate. NDSCS found the open person early and often. The guards were very willing to share. NDSCS also held Central Lakes to only five field goals the entire second half.

No 3s (when we were watching) is odd in this day and age. We did miss the first six points for NDSCS so for all I know they hit two 3s. Also I averaged out the possessions for each half. We figure we missed seven possessions at the start of the game.
