FARMINGTON tigers 56, CANNON FALLS bombers 54

Farmington rallied from an 11 point deficit early in the second half to beat Cannon Falls 56-54. CF beat Farmington last week in Albert Lea 67-58. Abby Kenealy scored the last four points for Farmington with a steal and transition lay up when the game was tied at 52. CF's Korie Jackson tied it at 54 with two free throws with 12.8 seconds left. Kenealy later scored the game winner with about six seconds to go on a transition basket off the CF press.

Farmington started off with the early lead with free throws due to their transition game and off rebounds. Kenealy scored six of the first nine points for Farmington. CF eventually broke out with a 26-20 lead. Alex Montgomery finished strong by scoring 12 of CF's last 14 points. Farmington scored after CF's Alison Banks missed a shot. Kenealy grabbed the rebound and April Hayes scored in transition to cut the CF lead to 30-26.

Farmington's Ashley Grabowski scored on the high low from Kenealy to cut the CF lead to 30-28, but then Farmington went on a 1/7 scoring drought while CF built their lead to 41-30. Nicole Anderson had five points, including a 3 in the 11-2 run. Farmington had a mini spurt of three possessions in a 7-0 run capped with a Rachel Hamel trey. CF built the lead back up to nine at 46-37. Farmington had a mini five possession drought. But Farmington is built for quick hits and they had a five possession string and 9-0 run to tie it at 46. The Tigers were 8/10 in their scoring sequence as they took the lead on a long two by Kirstee Rotty. Alex Montgomery tied it up for CF with two free throws. With 1:18 to go CF was in a delay type game when Kenealy anticipated a pass up top and took it down for the lead at 54-52. On CF's next possession Tasha Douglas missed on her shot. Alisha Todd came up with the rebound and Farmington took a time out. Kenealy was fouled, but missed the front end the free throw. Montgomery boarded and Jackson nailed the free throws with 12.8 seconds to go. CF put the press on and Farmington went over the top. Kenealy scored the lay up from Rachel Hamel for the exclamation point on the Farmington comeback.

BY THE NUMBERS

Cannon Falls 54, 67, 80.6, .403
Made 3s: Farmington 1, Cannon Falls 1
Made FTs: CF 19, Farmington 11
Bench: Farmington 16, CF 2
A couple of trends were turned on their head tonight. #1. usually the team that makes more FTs is the victor. Montgomery herself had 12 made free throws and CF had 19, but still lost. #2 usually the team with the better bench does NOT win, but the tempo and pace of the game requires the bench approach for Farmington. They aggressively and relentlessly push the ball up the court every chance they can. Also the fouls situation demanded a bench. They sometimes go with the wave sub pattern.

As a team Farmington was up high on defense, they are vulnerable to penetration and fakes. On offense they like to use the high/low in the half court. Their interior passing kept CF off balance.
CF worked the left side about 80% of the time. They were beat over the top of their press a couple of times, the last time was fatal.
