HOLY FAMILY fire 65, ZIMMERMAN thunder 45

This game had no drama to speak of as HF had better athletes and better skills as they rolled to a 65-45 win at home. Both teams are in 4AA West so it was an important game for seeding, but both are in the middle of the pack. HF is now 11-8, while Zimmerman is 7-12.

HF built an 8-0 lead before Zimmerman scored. Zimmerman did not convert on their first 7 possessions, five on missed shots. Becca Friestleben hit a three to push the HF lead to 23-7. It was her second three and 10th point, but she soon picked up her third foul with 5:04 to go and sat the rest of the half. Zimmerman took advantage of her absence by finishing the half with a 16-9 run. They rattled off five straight scoring possessions after she left for the bench. Kaitlyn Houser and Lisa Swanson each had five during the run. Amanda Kari was fouled right at the buzzer and she converted one free throw to make it 32-23 HF.

Zimmerman stayed within 9 until the 15:01 mark. Then the Thunder turned to a whisper as they went on a nine possession drought. HF was on fire with a 5/6 possession run. The highlight was the transition lay up where Liz Traxler took a pass from Friesleben on the right side, caught it in mid air and scored without landing a la Miller twins. Zimmerman had one more drought in them with six, and a 1/10 sequence. By that time HF led 62-33 with 2:34 to go. Zimmerman finished with a 12-3 with two threes in the mix.

NUMBERS EXPLAINED

HOLY FAMILY
STARTERS
Becca Friestleben 18, 15, 120.0, .533 scoring is on her to do list. She has a quick release, and locks in on the rim. has good working relationship with Traxler. Hit her on a couple transition layups. strong, quick, physical, active and aggressive on defense. crashes offensive boards. can score when getting hit and make the 3 pt play. RF; needs to keep head up when dribbling, needs to develop left hand. picked up some fouls that could have been avoided. too high defensively on the weakside. needs to get her feet set or stopped so her balance is better on her shot.
Hanna Savaryn 8, 7, 114.3, .714 has nice stroke 12/15 feet out. fed Adie on a lob for a score.
Liz Traxler 9, 12, 75.0, .333 athletic, speed, point guard. runs the floor and converted with Friestleben the ally oop on transition. extremely active on defense with rebounds and steals. directed traffic, passed the high/low. RF: needs to get her footwork down. should get her feet set before shooting.

BY THE NUMBERS
Holy Family 65, 72, 90.3, .458
Zimmerman 45, 72, 62.5, .319
made 3s: Zimmerman 4, HF 3
made fts: HF 14, Zimmerman 13
bench: HF 14, Zimmerman 11
Looking at the numbers the floor % wasn't even close. Too many droughts, but it really wasn't turnovers that hurt Zimmerman: it was the shot selection. Balance with the shooter and the rest of the floor is important. Some shots were taken with no weakside boards around. Also player range needs to come under consideration. Some took shots with their feet on the 3 point line.
