BIG 10 ACTION
Here is more on the Minnesota/South Dakota State last second shot controversy. From the Pioneer Press, and the Sioux Falls Argus Leader, and Yankton Press & Dakotan has the SDSU side of things.
Michigan State towered over Iowa 83-63. The Des Moines Register thinks the Hawkeyes might have an allergy playing at home. Mpls North's Mia Johnson had 6 for MSU. Osseo's Krista Vande Venter also had 6, but for Iowa.
Illinois defeated Wisconsin 70-62. The Capital Times describes Wisconsin's performance "flat and lack of urgency." The Wisconsin State Journal key word was "half hearted." The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel says a top 5 finish in the Big 10 is a "fantasy." Over 8000 saw the contest in Madison. Bloomington Kennedy's Jenna Smith had 12 for Illinois. Concordia Roseville's Sarah Ingison did not score for Wisconsin.
Penn State took a measure of revenge against Michigan 65-51. PSU coach Rene Portland won her 600th game. Only 9 have climbed to that level at D1 action.
Ohio State blitzed Northwestern 70-42. Breck's Melissa Miller had 8 points for NW.
Purdue powered past Indiana 73-51. It was Purdue coach Sharon Versyp's first meeting with her former team.
OTHER ACTION
Creighton topped Drake 67-57. Eastview's Michelle Kaus had 18 points, all on 3s for Creighton. Mpls North's Tyrai Bronson added 2 for Creighton. St. Croix Lutheran Lauren Dybing had 4 for Drake.
Vermont beat Maine 71-57. Hopkins' Abby Greene had 3 as a starter, Breck's Lindsey Hugstad-Vaa had 5 off the bench for Maine.
NAIA
Valley City State split their series this weekend. They defeated Dickinson State 77-66 on Friday, but lost to Minot State Saturday 71-55.
JUCO
Itasca has a feature in the Duluth News Tribune about the rise of their program in the last couple of years with coach John Bauer.
Gogebic beat UW Manitowoc 61-35. From the Manitowoc Herald Times.
Next up: later tonight....with an out & about if the weather and roads cooperate. It is clear here now, temp 7.2 and about 3 inches of new snow.
