SWEET 16 WRAP
Champlin Park won their first Sweet 16 yesterday. They beat Cedar Mountain-Comfrey 70-60 in the championship. It was the first time a class A team made the finals and it was the second weekend in a row these two teams faced off.

SIGNS OF THINGS TO COME
Many of the teams involved in the Sweet 16 will be playing December 2, at Rogers in the Breakdown tip off. Minneapolis South will play Fulda at noon. Winona Cotter will play Champlin Park at 4 pm; and in a rematch of the 3rd place game Becker takes on Hopkins at 8 pm. Barnesville and Rogers will be there too. Barnesville will play Cretin-Derham Hall, and Rogers plays Fergus Falls.

COMING UP
Now that summer ball is finished I will be reviewing and analyzing team and player performances. I will be passing out awards. It will be either Friday, or this weekend. It might stretch out over a couple of days. I will also make recommendations on how to improve the summer.

The next time basketballs will bounce in Minnesota is this fall in the Gopher State Fall League. They will be playing on four Sundays in September and October. Teams will play two times each Sunday. No word on where the contests will take place.
On September 30th two rival AAU programs will be hosting one day exposure camps
The Minnesota Stars will hold their event at Hopkins. Here is the Stars site for registering.
North Tartan will also hold an exposure event at Bloomington Kennedy. Here is the North Tartan site dealing with registering.
Of course Michigan begins their fall season next week with the opening of practice.

YOUTH SPORTS & FUN
This article from the StarTribune emphasizes the fun in the youth sports. I remember watching an AAU game in 1993 and after a heart stopping win a daughter came up to the parents and the dad started rattling off all the things that needed improvement. At that point what the kid needed was celebration and congratulations. Her whole body language changed. What should have been a happy occassion turned into a sour moment.
