this game took place on July 30th in the Bloomington Kennedy Sauna, I mean gym
North Tartan Meltdown
Exhibition

North Tartan 46, Minneapolis Lady Lakers 22

This took the place of the championship between North Tartan and their sister team North Tartan Blue. But this game had no flavor, ferve or pizazz of a championship game. Some of that may be due to the heat/humidity. Some of it may have been the umpteenth game in three days. Some of it was due to the fact their was no awards to be given.

North Tartan was missing Tera Steinbauer who went down in the semifinals with what looked like a knee injury. MLL were without Talisha Barlow who had 32 in the sweet 16 game and 25 points in the semifinals earlier in the day. North Tartan was able to handle the loss of Steinbauer better than the Lakers. NT had no problems at all with the Lakers. NT scored ten of their first 11 possessions. Alyssa Karel scored the first two times, a lay up off the tip, and a pull up jumper on the second possession. She closed the outburst with a 3 and also a put back. So Karel had 9 of NT's 22 points. NT led 22-6 at this point. MLL had an 8 drought during this time. The first half (in running time) had NT up 29-13.

The second half was more of the same. Nothing amazing or out of the ordinary happened. NT played strong aggressive ball and never let the Lakers get anything easy. For the players both teams had the result was expected.

This was the third best pp100 game this summer season I saw. The tops was Daubert Pinnacle Nebraska at 133.85. This was NT's best on both the pp100 and floor %.

This game was a rematch of a game back in the state qualifiers. In that game the Lakers were without the services of Talisha Barlow and Kiara Strickland, yet they were ahead at half time 27-25. NT did go on to win that game 61-42 (at least until I left). But I was questioning why NT had such a sloppy start in that game. There were no questions today as the NT blitzed MLL fast and furious. They played like they were the best team in MN and were not going to take any prisoners.

When I go to these games I expect championship teams to play at championship levels no matter what the circumstances or who the opposition is. I wasn't the least bit dissapointed today.

I was disappointed not to see a civil war in the North Tartan family. That game would have had some passion on both ends. And it would have meant something.

Next up: the general news of the day tomorrow morning.
