THE WEEK THAT WAS: #1
The season tipped off this week with high school practice, but this week's emphasis is going to be on the recent Minnesota D1 signings. What I have done with this list is gone back over the summer and 2006-07 results and looked at the players pp100 and floor %. This is how the players fared in pp100. Again this will include the summer AAU results, and any summer or fall ball games. Some players I have seen 20+ times, some only three times. But the trends are what you see below. Obviously the more I see a player the numbers start to hold more weight.

TEAM OF THE WEEK
Since there was only one game (no scrimmages allowed) the obvious choice is NDSCS. They ran the floor, put the clamps on defensively and dominated inside. They beat Central Lakes 77-35 in the first foray in the out & about sequence. Plus they hit on the gold standard of 100 pp100.
Community College action barely gets a whisper. When I go out & about this winter the CC games will be eligible for the awards.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK
This may sound odd, but it is not necessarily the trench player. For those that are unfamiliar I go with the player that has the best numbers. So
#1 I have to see the player during the week.
#2 the player has to meet the gold standard of 100+ pp100 and .500+ floor percentage,
#3 the possessions need to be healthy--in other words no players with a pp100 of 166.7 in three possessions (5 points/3 possessions). A good bench mark is 10, but I can lower it to 8 if their is tremendous balance,
#4 numbers against sub par teams won't wow me as much as numbers against solid teams.
#5 winning is a good thing.

So this week the winner is Tanika Massey of NDSCS. Massey is a post that is a solid force inside. that is hard to move and has a soft touch. A 2004 grad of Mpls North, Massey went to Chicago Loyola for one year in 2005 where she averaged 3.5 ppg. She did not play the next two years and has returned to action at Wahpeton. With the surrounding cast there, NDSCS will be successful and Massey will anchor the post.

TEAM OF THE WEEK
With only two teams to choose from The team will only consist of five players
Kayla Hanson, NDSCS
Tanika Massey, NDSCS
Stephanie Roggenbuck, NDSCS
Becky Skiba, Central Lakes
Alicia Stensgaard, NDSCS

DEFENDER OF THE WEEK
Whitney Glazier, Central Lakes

THE WEEK AHEAD
The first high school games in Minnesota start on Wednesday with Kennedy at Washburn. The real big action takes place in the tournaments over the Thanksgiving weekend.
Hudson WI will host an event (not a tournament) with Blaine, Holy Angels, and Minnehaha in attendance.
Byron; Kingsland, Dover-Eyota, JWP, Lewiston-Altura, Norwood-Young America, Red Wing, and Zumbrota-Mazeppa all hold four team tournaments.
But all eyes will be centered on Hamline with the Pat Patterson Memorial Classic. They have added four teams, so in effect there are two tournaments.
In the East bracket Hopkins opens with Andover on Friday at 1 pm followed by a 3 pm game with Cretin-Derham Hall vs Mpls North.
In the West bracket Centennial takes on Rosemount at 5 pm and defending state champ St. Paul Central plays Totino-Grace at 7 pm.
The chances are #1 St. Paul Central will play #2 Centennial on Saturday at 5 pm in the West Championship. The Hamline women's varsity plays later that night.

Next up: tomorrow morning.
