VALLEY CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT
5th Place
MAPLE RIVER eagles 56, TRUMAN bluejays 49

Maple River started off hot by scoring on their first five possession and putting a MR stamp on the game. Chelsea Arndt had four of the 11 points for MR. MR moved the ball crisply and all were the direct result of assists. Truman came back with an 8-2 run to close to 13-10. They were getting inside with Ashley Clow delivering four points. MR edged back up 17-12 with all four points courtesy Melissa Streit. Truman tied it up at 17 with a put back by Jordan Feis knotting it up. MR finished the half with an 8-3 run to lead 27-20 at half. Truman ended the half with a 1/8 possession string. Melissa Streit had 9 for MR at the break, Clow had 8 for Truman.

Truman's offensive frustration kept going in the early portion of the second half. They were 1/10 on their possessions with only one free throw to show for it. MR went on a 13-1 run to start the half. The last four possessions were the result of turnovers. MR was spreading the wealth around with McCall Bisel notching four. MR had 5/6 possession string during the onslaught. But just like the first half MR stalled with a 1/8 possession string. Truman did come back slightly with a 7-1 run, but still trailed 41-28. Then both teams were both on fire. MR was 5/6 in their sequences, Truman rattled off six straight possessions. But Truman didn't really make up any ground with each team scoring 9 each and MR led 54-42 with a little over 2 minutes left. Truman did close the gap with a 7-2 spurt the last two minutes. Leading the charge was Betsy Wendt who scored six of the points. The problem for Truman was they left five points at the line. MR survived the late push 56-49.
