ST. LOUIS PARK orioles 68, ST. FRANCIS saints 50
St. Louis Park beat host St. Francis in a convincing win 68-50. Both teams are now 5-2 in the North Suburban and tied for third. St. Francis had won 7 in a row and had just won the Monticello Tournament. They are now 9-3, StLP is 7-4.
St. Louis Park grabbed the early lead at 5-0, and, in a display of balance, had four different players score on their first four scores. A key foul by SF's Ali Schwartzwald with 12:43 to go in the half put the SF point guard on the bench. She left trailing 11-6. She didn't return in the half. SF did have one sequence where they scored 5/6 possessions and closed to 20-16. But they also had droughts of six and five. StLP matched them with their own 6 possession drought at the same time SF had their sixer. Part of the reason for the StLP drought was Kika Greenlee sitting down with a pair of fouls. StLP led 34-20 after Greenlee's third trey of the half, but closed with Melissa Borstner scored on the last three SF possessions to cut the margin to 34-25.
The hot streak that SF ended with continued on into the second half. They scored on five of their first seven possessions to close to 38-35. StLP took a time out to stop the bleeding and they put the tourniquet on SF. SF only scored on 1/14 possessions as StLP built their lead to 53-36 on a 15-1 run. Emily Hendricks had 7 of those points for StLP and Tromesa May added 6. SF never really got closer after that outburst.

If you noticed SF had made 13 free throws, but they left 10 points at the line as they only converted two free throws on one possession, everything else was 1 made, 1 missed. Also in the critical possessions from 38-35 to 53-36 SF had 3.29 touches before a shot or turnover, StLP was at 7.36 touches. All that helped the defensive wraps (found below) for StLP with 46 total. The patience on offense for StLP got quality shots in the paint. They moved the ball and found the gaps in the zone. the interior passing was solid.
