SPRING FLING SHOOTOUT
UW LaCrosse Rec Center
Platinum Championship
TEAM WI SELECT SAMUELS 49,
TEAM WI SR WHITE 26
The Seniors could not get their offensive rolling as they did in the quarterfinal upset win against TWS Doucette and TWS Samuels used the same concoction that proved potent in the semis in a 49-26 win in the LaCrosse Platinum championship. Price and Hoyt put the SAM in Samuels again with a combined 24 points. Add in one 6-6 shot eraser in Nicole Griffin and the younger squad took the prize home.
Just as in the semis TWSS got an early jump on the lead at 8-1. That fast start combined with the sluggish 1/8 offensive performance by White set the tone for the game. White did close to 14-12 when Samuels scored five straight, and in a larger sequence 6/7 on a 12-0 run, to finish the half up 26-12. The Price (Sam) was right for 9 points in the first half.
If White was to make a move it had to be early in the 2nd half. Samuels had a rare drought of five possessions. White closed to 26-19 on a 7-0 run. After that Samuels rose to the challenge with a 13-2 run to put the game out of reach with 8:34 left. Nicole Griffin had 6 in that run. The last portion of the second half was anti climatic. White failed to score the last six minutes as they suffered through a 9 possession drought.
