MYAS 16U TOURNAMENT SEMIFINALS
at Park Center
MN DYNAMITE 57, MN Heat Red 30
The Dynamite exploded and the Heat cooled off in the 16u semifinals on Saturday. Six players had six or more points for the Dynamite showing off their balance. The Heat only had two players that topped six. The Dynamite was bigger, stronger and that provided the TNT for the win.
The Dynamite started off with the first four points. The Heat also had a few sparks and tied it at four. In fact the Heat led a few times in the first half. The Dynamite did have a couple of four possession droughts in the first portion of the half which didn't help their cause. There were four ties in the first half. The last time Heat led was after a Natalie Roundtree trey 18-16. That is what ignited the Dynamite. They scored on their last five possessions of the half to go up 27-20. The free throw line and second chancers played a huge part in that 11-2 run. There were two old fashioned three point plays and six points on second chancers, the last two converted by Joy Mikkelson.
That energy carried over to the second half. The Dynamite came out scoring on 12 of their first 16 possessions--a .750 floor % clip which is sizzling any time of the year. The pp100 checked in scorching 162.5. Second chancers again played a huge part with 14 points coming because the Heat could not get the defensive boards. A couple of times there were no, absolutely no weak side rebounders except Dynamiters. Missed assignments were an obvious reason, but so was the physical aggressiveness of the Dynamite. With a six possession drought the Heat's chances were not helped. The Dynamite punched the first ticket to the finals on Sunday.
