2A WINS ALL STAR SERIES
The 2A All Stars won the Coaches All Star Series in a convincing 98-60 win over the 3A group. It was the first championship for the 2A Stars in the four years of this format. As they did last night they 2As used their speed, and transition to extended the lead over their bigger class rival. 3A led at 3-0 after Cassie Robinson opened with a shot from the top of the key. 2A took the lead at 4-3 and never relinquished it. It was 44-34 at half time. Alex Montgomery of Cannon Falls led 2A with 19. Brianna Mastey of Becker had 21 to lead all scorers from 3A.
In the third place game 4A squad bounced back using their pressure defense, speed and size to hit the century mark 100-65 over 1A. Ephesia Holmes scored point #100 after a steal. 4A played with a better focus and sense of team today. Their defensive effort gave them plenty of opportunities for easy points. Brittnye McSparron of Eastview had 23 to lead 4A.
At the conclusion of the games each class had a player named MVP
1A: Jenny Noordmans, Hancock
4A: Kiara Buford, St. Paul Central
3A: Brianna Mastey, Becker
2A: Angie Jetvig, Hawley, also the MVP of the tournament. Jetvig turned heads and had fans scanning the program as she was an unknown quantity coming into the tournament. Those that read the blog know she was the Player of the Week in Late February and were therefore not shocked.
I will have full and detailed reports with all the numbers later in the week---probably Thursday.
