COMETS TOURNAMENT
Platinum Division Quarterfinals
MN STARS ECKMANN 44, ECI 38
first off a couple of points--both first games for each team. ECI met each other right before tip off. Kelsey Jacobson was playing to help out. This tournament was the first and last time this grouping will take the floor for ECI.
MSE started off with four straight scores. Two of those baskets were on second chancers, and another on a turnover/lay up situation. MSE led 8-2. That offensive flurry dissipated with a 1/10 sequence, five of which end in turnovers. ECI crept back into the game at 10-8. After two quick scores MSE fell back into a 10 possession slumber. ECI was just as cold but they avoided the prolonged dry spells that slowed MSE down. ECI did end the half with an 8 possession drought. It was 16 all at half time. Both teams pp100 were an anemic 53.3.
The game was tied three times, the last coming at 25 all when ECI broke free. They scored on three straight possessions including a three by Jacobson and then by Abby Wolden to make it 31-27 ECI. MSE responded with three straight scores of their own with a three by T-Yanna Devericks, followed by a put back by Devericks and then a three by Kelsie Amman to make it 35-31 MSE. ECI did not find the bottom ot the basket for 7 straight possessions. Jacobson hit a 3 to break the drought and cut the margin to 37-34, but ECI promptly fell into another 8 possession hole. MSE wasn't burning the nets either at this stretch. They were in a 1/9 offensive sequence. Devericks stole the ball with under a minute to go and scored the lay up to put MSE up 41-34. Free throws ended the contest with MSE advancing to the semis with a 44-38 win.
