#1 posting 5.20.2006

MN AAU 16s Semifinals
Triple Threat 60, MN Metro Stars Black 56

In the most entertaining game of the day, Triple Threat beat Metro Stars Black in a minor upset 60-56. Both teams were sharper and crisper. At the start of the game, if we combined both teams, the floor % was 11/18 or .611. MSB had a four possession scoring string during a 8-0 run. Abby Rittenhouse had four points during the run. MSB led 12-9 at this point. The game went back and forth with three ties during the later part of the first half. Triple Threat did lead 25-20 as they had a 10-4 run. Kachine Alexander had half of the points on the run. MSB finished the half with an 8-0 run to take a 28-25 lead.

Triple Threat came out and retook the lead at 32-31 on Kiara Buford's basket and free throw. Williams added two more to lead 34-31. Then MSB went on a 10-0 run with two 3s by Gigler and Theisen to open and close the run. After Theisen's three the Threat took a time out. That straightened them out and stopped the momentum for MSB. Threat rattled off 6 straight points in three possessions to cut the lead to 41-40. Patrice Thomas had four points on this run on a steal and also on a put back. She also provided the lead for good on a drive from the top to the left side 42-41. The largest Threat lead came at 52-45 with about 4 minutes left. Rittenhouse scored four points at the line in a 6-2 run to cut the lead to 54-51. Thomas scored again on a lay up. With a minute to go Courtney Boylan made two free throws to cut the lead to 56-53. Buford added one point to the Threat tally, and Viehauser cashed in two free throws to make it 59-53. Theisen knocked in a three to cut it to 59-56 with only 2.1 seconds to go. Alexander was fouled with minimal time to go and she ended the scoring with one more free throw.
