This game took place on Sunday, May 28 in Menomonie WI
16Gold/18u Semifinals Memorial Day Classic
Team WI Select 16 48, CWCC 35

A word of warning: Team WI Select 16 had some players fill in for them this weekend. They were able to play in the tournament because it also included 18s.

This game got off to a very slow start with only one point, a free throw by Stoeger of TWS16, in the first combined 10 possessions. TWS16 was able to shake the cob webs loose from the offense and went 7/8 including six scoring possessions in a row. Six different TWS16 players were able to score in this stretch, a testament to their balance and depth. Baernwald was the player that delivered twice with four points. With TWS16 up 17-6, the game turned back into offensive slumberland with 0/9 combined possessions. CWCC endured 6 straight non scoring possessions. TWS16 led at half 25-11.

CWCC tried to battle back in the second half, but a 14 point deficit against a quality team is a hard hole to dig out of. CWCC did go to the glass, and looked to make their points at the line, but, if you have been following the tournament, with running time that was a strategy that was not eventually going to pay off. CWCC did string a 5/6 possession run with Lindsey Liternta scoring five of the 13 points in the run. Amy Sullivan also knocked down five. The closest CWCC got was 29-21. Baernwald again had five straight points to halt the momentum. Toward the end of the contest Wang scored four straight points and TWS16 led 46-29. CWCC had one last kick and scored on three straight possessions, but TWS16 walked off the court with a 48-35 win.
