HOW GOOD IS HAWAII BASKETBALL?
This is from the first round game between D1 teams Monaluna and Maui
BY THE NUMBERS
team, points, possessions, pp100, floor %
Monaluna 41, 70, 58.6, .286
Maui 37, 68, 54.4, .294
As you can see pretty absymal numbers. Neither team could get above even 60 pp100. The average for MN HS ball is 83.1 pp100, and .404 on floor %. This is not for the best in the state, but run of the mill ordinary teams. Both these teams would not make the MN tournament. MN AAU numbers have been running lower with 73.0 pp100 and .355 averages.

NUMBERS EXPLAINED

Let us look at what the pros do:
Minnesota vs Seattle 5/13/2006
MN STARTERS
Jacobs 13, 13, 100.0, .385
Ohlde 15, 10, 150.0, .900
Hayden 7, 7, 100.0, .571
Mann 13, 8, 162.5, .625
Augustus 26, 19, 136.8, .632
BENCH

Thornburn 0, 1, 0.0, .000
Lewis 0, 3, 0.0, .000
Abrismova 2, 5, 40.0, .200
Outstanding #s with Jacobs floor % the only ???. Her pp100 #s are high due to the 3s that she made on the day. All starters above the 100 points for 100 possession standard. Augustus has already made a difference and has made the teammates better, some due to the fact the defense needs to focus on her movements, freeing up shots for the others. Bench #s pretty thin

SEATTLE STARTERS
Sue Bird 11, 11, 100.0, .455
Betty Lennox 11, 17, 64.7, .294
Lauren Jackson 14, 11, 127.3, .545
Izane Castro-Marques 2, 4, 50.0, .250
Wendy Palmer 15, 10, 150.0, .800
BENCH
Barbara Turner 7, 6, 116.7, .667
Simone Edwards 4, 3, 133.3, .667
Shaunzinski Gortman 2, 3, 66.7, .333
Tiffani Johnson 9, 8, 112.5, .500
Lennox and Castro don't get to the magic 100 mark. Only Jackson and Palmer climb above .500

BY THE NUMBERS
MN 84, 75, 112.0, .520
Seattle 75, 76, 98.7, .474
These are professionals but you can see the difference.

Here is why folks need to pay attention to what they write in their emails as they can come back to bite you on the rear end. This story is from West Des Moines Dowling HS where the athletic director sent out some emails that were not rather flattering. One ripped on the state bound girls basketball team. Here is the details from the Des Moines Register
