MN 16 U qualifier
Metro Stars White 50, Swish 49
This game took place on Sunday at Hastings.
MSW scored first but Swish came back and led 4-2. Neither team put together any offensive system as MSW had an 0-8 drought. Swish also had their problems with dry spells of 5, 5, and 7 in the first half. The best strings either team put together was three. Jackie Hiebert had the hot hand for MSW with 7 of their first 9 points, and 13 for the half. MSW held a 15-9 lead , but Swish put together a 10-5 run to end the half down one 20-19.
In the second half MSW tried to draw the Swish out of their 2/3 zone. Eventually Hanna Muegge was fouled on a drive to the basket. She made one free throw, missed the second, but Hiebert kept the possession on the rebound. The possession ended when Maggie Slawson lost control of the ball. For all the delay and for all the sluggish offense in the first half, things picked up. Both teams combined for 10 of 12 scoring possessions. MSW had a four straight scoring possessions with Hiebert scoring four. MSW led 36-30 when the Swish bench picked up a technical when they complained about a no call on a missed shot by Kaitlin Dunn. The tech came after Barber had missed a shot for MSW. So MSW kept the ball and Barber cashed in the two tech free throws. Later in the possession Hiebert made two free throws. That was a turnaround of a potential six points. MSW led 40-30. They soon bumped the lead to 43-30.
At that point Swish got it together. They out scored MSW 19-7 the rest of the way. Swish started with four straight scoring possessions. Eurle cut the Swish deficit to 47-43 on a steal and lay up of Dove's pass. Barber had a turnover, but Hagberg's shot missed. Slawson took the rebound, but missed her shot. She had a chance to take the lay up, but pulled it out and tried a 17 footer. Dunn rebounded for Swish. Sears was fouled and made both free throws to cut the score to 47-45. Barber made one free throw for MSW 48-45. Swish had Hagberg take a 3, she missed, but Eurle got the rebound. Eventually she was fouled and she made one free throw. Next possession for MSW Barber made both free throws. Sears canned a three from the right side to end the scoring. Muegge was fouled, but missed both free throws. There really was no time left to do anything but rebound.
