#2 posting 5.15.2006
This was from the Mpls Midtown Y event on Saturday
Metro Stars 19s 50, MN Total Package 15s 41
In a game that could have degenerated into a route the Total Package 15s scrapped and scraped only to fall to the vastly more experienced 19s 50-41.
With the lack of 19 teams or tournaments available the Metro Stars entered the 16 division at the Midtown Y event. I don't know if you can really call it a tournament, it was more of a round robin event. Anyway the Total Package played up a division to prepare for their 15u state tournament this weekend. They had nothing to lose as every 16 or 19 team had the pressure on them. Experience against bigger, stronger, quicker...well at least bigger and stronger teams was the goal. TP has some quick kids.
The 19s dominated in the first five possessions and grabbed an 8-0 lead. At this point TP took a time out. After the time out TP scored their next two possessions. After that the game steadied out. The 19s were up at half 34-22, but after the initial outburst to start the contest the 19s were up 26-22. The 19s did put together a 4 possession scoring string with Mullaney finishing that string with five points. The margin was comfortable for the 19s at this point. O'Toole (10) and Mullaney (13) were a potent one/two inside/outside punch for the 19s. Mobley cranked in 10 for TP by half.
The second half started off with a chill, or maybe a wind chill for the 19s as they went 10 possessions without scoring. Seven of those possessions were missed shots. During the 19s' Ice Age TP only scored three times, but had cut the lead to 34-27. TP did get as close as 38-33. Cassie Johnson came to life with six points to close out the game. Her second basket bumped the 19s lead back to 44-33. There were no major moves to end the game, but TP realized they could play with the big girls.
What do the numbers mean?

PLAYER EVALUATIONS
METRO STARS 19s
STARTERS
Krissy O'Toole, Wayzata 12, 8, 150.0, .750 dominated the paint against the youngsters, physical, muscular, but good touch. RF: can she do the same damage against bigger players
Kelly Mullaney, Breck 15, 11, 136.4, .636 rythym was back this game. plays the same all the time--with vigor RF: takes too much on herself
Breanna Salley, St. Francis 9, 11, 81.2, .364 started to take shots without putting the ball on the floor each time. RF: when she missed it was due to a drop in her hand on the follow through (deep off the rim).
Mindy Schmidt, Champlin Park 2, 3, 66.7, .333
Jillian Schurle, Hopkins 2, 4, 50.0, .500 RF: needs to establish herself and grab the game, not play like window dressing. Needs to deliver 8 to 10 points a game.
BENCH
Megan Givens, Breck 0, 4, 0.0, .000
Andi Olson, Jordan, 0, 4, 0.0, .000. RF: slow release, needs to recognize situations quickly
Callie Mansour, Burnsville 0, 4, 0.0, .000
Cassie Johnson, Eastview 6, 9, 66.7, .333 has tools RF: needs to dominate against smaller players
Emily Neal, Breck 2, 7, 28.6, .143
Only 8 points from the bench. As a whole the bench needs to raise their level of play. They can't coast. They need to squeeze each possession.

Theairra Taylor, St. Paul Como Park 9, 12, 75.0, .500 big guard with the quickness of the other two. RF: At times tried to do too much without using the rest of her team. needs to be consistent at the line.
