MN State AAU Tournament 16u Quarterfinals
MN Stars 70, MN Summit Blue 50
The Summit Blue led early 7-1 against the Stars. In fact they pushed it to 13-4. Emily DeWitt, Katie's sister, and daughter of coach Dave (who is also the head coach at Anoka-Ramsey CC) led the way early five points. At that point the Stars became shooting stars as they went on a 20-2 run while the Summit hit the depths with a 0/10 possession string. Angel Robinson scored on a steal and layup to put the Stars in front for good 16-15.
To start the half Abby Gust scored seven straight points for the Summit, but then they had another dip in the road as they had a 0/9 drought. During the same stretch the Stars did not exploit the situation and only scored once. For the whole stretch the Stars did outscore the Summit 18-2. So if we add the two huge dry spells together it is 38-4. Those dry spells were fatal to the Summit's cause. With less than 40 seconds left in the game Mara Hjelle looked as if she hurt her knee. She was carried off the floor.

BY THE NUMBERS
Points, possessions, pp100, floor %
Stars 70, 71, 98.6, .451
Summit Blue 50, 69, 72.4, .333
The Stars have been the closest to reach the 100 pp100 number, but they had a way to go to get to the .500 floor % mark. The Stars may have gone over both if they had a better start.
Next up: later tonight with the Triple Threat and MN Metro Stars Black 16s semifinals.
