Out & About: Osseo/Champlin Park

#3 posting 1.19.2006

Champlin Park 60, Osseo 47
This was an early (6 pm) match up due to a double header and the good news was I was there at the start.
CP never trailed in this contest and only once was tied at 2. CP's Jenny Theisen dropped two 3s in the first half, while Mindy Schmidt and Ashlyn Fuller slashed their way to the glass for 8 and 4. Osseo never really had an outside game developed in the game and worked the ball inside to Jenny Oligmueller for six. Neither team racked up any runs worth mentioning in the first half. CP's biggest lead was 28-16. CP led at half 28-20
The second half provided more of the same, but CP's offense was more effective. Early on Osseo cut the lead to 31-26--the closest the game was to be in the second half. At that stage CP converted 5/6 possessions and went on a 11-4 run to bump the lead back to 42-30. The game settled into a comfort zone and that is about where the final margin ended up. CP scored their last 10 points at line.
The game can be summarized as CP's perimeter slash game, along with the sniping of Theisen, beating Osseo's perimeter game 53-8.
Osseo's bench outscored CP 17-4, and the inside game also worked in their favor 30-7. CP is still without their post Natalie Gigler for a couple more weeks.
This was CP's 11th win in a row.

Department of Defense: both teams used man
Height Matters: Osseo 5-9.4, Champlin Park 5-8.4. The smaller team wins.

Champlin Park Player evaluations:
Starters
Ashlynn Fuller 13, 20, 65.0, .350 likes to penetrate, good vertical. RF: questions on range, had too many turnovers that is why her floor % was sub .400
Jenny Theisen 23, 17, 135.3, .588 Excellent shooter, can shoot off the pass, and is now developing a drive game. Has good range, prefers corners on 3s. Automatic at the free throw line tonight 14/14. RF: Needs to hit the weight room. Needs to make the basket when getting fouled.
Mindy Schmidt 13, 13, 100.0, .538 primarily scores off the drive. Also helped bring the ball up. RF: needs to hit the weight room
Michelle Burns 4, 5, 80.0, .400 attacked inside at appropriate times. RF: against pressure had a tendancy to get trapped.
Melissa Anderson 3, 4, 75.0, .500 RF: undersized for her postion

Osseo player evaluations:
Starters
Jenny Oligmueller 16, 19, 84.2, .473 The main focus for Osseo. Able to get position inside. RF: needs to push her floor % up to .650. Needs to cash in at the line.
Desirae Robinson 4, 10, 40.0, .200 RF: not her night from the floor. needs to be more consistent and have ability to score when pressured. Needs to drive.
Melissa Henderson 8, 8, 100.0, .500 decent shooter. RF: tends to disappear at times. Needs to step up and insert herself in the mix.
Erika Calkins 0, 4, 0.0, .000 RF: needs to be a threat, make better decisions
Sierra Bailey 2, 3, 66.7, .333 RF: needs to be a threat
Bench
Taylor Sonnenfeld 9, 9, 100.0, .556 Has energy and a nose for the ball. Scored six straight points for Osseo in the second half. RF: needs to be more fluid on shot. I will say this is the best I have seen her.
Megan Calhour 2, 4, 50.0, .250
Rachel Merrill 0. 4, 0.0, .000
Jennie Sunnarborg 6, 4, 150.0, .750 another big body that crashes the offensive boards.
