Out & About: Chaska/Eagan

#3 posting 1.20.2006

Chaska 57, Eagan 50
This was a matchup between team hovering around .500 in the Lake Conference. Eagan took the early lead in this contest with Adrea Holler leading the way with their first 8 points. Chaska was right in the mix and tied it up at eight. At that point Eagan went on a 11-1 run helped in part with two 3s by Courtney Peterson. Chaska made a wholesale change with five new players. The game turned at this point and Chaska went on a 17-2 run to finish the half. Eagan did not score their last 12 possessions of the half, 8 of which were missed shots. Chaska's 2nd group got the run started, but the starters returned to contribute the last 12 points. Courtney Boylan had six of those points. Chaska led at half 26-21.
Eagan started the second half with three straight scoring possessions to go up 27-26. Chaska then ran off four possessions to quickly go up 34-27. Chaska went with the wave of five when they were up 36-30 and Eagan took advantage. Chaska's second group went 1/8 on possessions, while Eagan 7-2 run. The starters returned, but the momentum was in Eagan's favor. Morgan Johnson scored to put Eagan up 39-38. That was Eagan's last lead. After turnovers by both teams, Laura Woods hit a short baseline shot to return the lead to Chaska for good. But it was not solid. Chaska led 44-39 when Tess Lardie made two free throws to cut the lead to 44-41. A steal and layup by Holler on the ensuing throw in made it a one point game. Chaska coughed it up again on the inbounds, but Eagan did not convert and turned it over in the half court set. Woods scored off a missed three by Boylan to push the lead back to 46-43. Lardie converted on an out of bounds play to bring it to 46-45 the last time it was to be that close. Liz Grider scored on a drive to make it 48-45. Chaska scored on their last six possessions, with nine free throws.

Department of Defense: Both teams used man, and zone to varying degrees. Chaska showed a 1/3/1 at one point.
