D2 AC Part 2
Looking at the other states around Minnesota we see fewer AC players probably due to the fact that in Wisconsin and Iowa there is only one D2 school (UW Parkside, Upper Iowa). In the Dakotas it is a population issue althougth SD has three schools (Northern State, South Dakota, Augustana), while ND has one (North Dakota) with one on the way (Mary).
IOWA
There were four AC players out of 36. Lindsey Fischbach (Carroll) Augustana; Kalee Modlin (Knoxville) Nebraska Kearney; Kelli Freeman (West Des Moines Valley) MSU Mankato; and Nicole Denmon (Ballard) Barry FL. If we were looking at a profile of an AC player from Iowa she would be 5-11.5, 2005.75, and from the HS class AAA.25. Her C/HS ratio is .698.
ND
They had three of 16 players AC in the 2005 season: Karna Plaine (Hatton), UM Crookston; Chelsea Hausauer (Velva) North Dakota; and Carissa Jahner (Fargo North) North Dakota. The average again is an 2006, 5-9.3, with a B.3 for HS classification. Their ratio comes in at .714. However the A player (Jahner) had a higher ratio (.811) than the B players (.577). which is what one would expect.
SD
Again the number three comes up but out of 28 players rostered in 2005: Michelle Bruns (Hecla) SW MN State; Liza Sizer (Miller) Northern State; Katie Krauth (West Central), Augustana. Averaging out these players B.67 is the classification, 5-9.3 the height, 2005 the grad class (they have all graduated). Their C/HS ratio is .609.
WISCONSIN
The Badger State provides five of 52 players as AC in 2005: Litreece Hurn (Mlw Bradley) Lane-a school in the south; Jennifer Pozzani (Beloit) Concordia St. Paul; Dana Weibel (Sparta) MSU Moorhead; Carrie Weir (West Allis Hale) UW Parkside; Amanda Sieja (Middleton) Michigan Tech. Their profile is AAA.8 in HS classification, 5-10.4, 2005.2. I don't have the information on the HS points since I was not tracking them at the time.
Looking at the HS ppg (minus Wisconsin) there were 7 players in the 20s, only 3 in the 10s. This contrasts with MN with 10 in the 10s and 5 in the 20s. The lowest ppg in HS belongs to Regan French (Marshall) SW MN State with 10.9. She was on a team with Shannon Bolden (Minnesota), Sascha Hansen (St. Cloud State), Stephanie Bolden (South Dakota State).
The only player from 2008 to make AC was Ashley Langen (Kittson Central) North Dakota. Only 4 of the 32 08ers started from MN last year in D2. If we add up the other players we find the odds of starting as a freshman, much less making AC are not good. Only 15.8% start from the 2008 class out of 72. AC is next to impossible with 1.4% making it.
Height matters. Alison Adamson (Willmar) Augustana was the shortest at 5-5. Only 10 of the 31 AC players were 5-9 or shorter 32.3 %.
