AAU SATURDAY APRIL 7 RESULTS
Today showed the strength of the "all star" or combination teams against the "all school" approach.
I started at St. Paul Johnson watching the younger set and I got their a few minutes late, but it was already over with the Mpls Lady Cats up 12-0. (There is running time in these games to keep everyone on schedule). It didn't get any better after that as the Cats led 42-2 at the half. They only allowed two free throws in the first half. The second half was more of the same as the Cats won 84-9 over Lakeville North's either 7th or 8th grade B team.
In the afternoon I traveled to Spring Lake Park to see the MN Stars (Smith) vs North St. Paul. Again that game wasn't very tight as the Stars won 47-20.
I did catch the final moments of Maple River vs Chisago Lakes. That was the game with the most drama of the day. I got their with the score tied at 23 with 1;21 left. Laura Fitzsimmons made one of two free throws for a 24-23 lead. Corradi scored on a pull up for Chisago Lakes to take a 25-24 lead on the next possession. Both teams had two possessions where they didn't score. Maric Woitas put Maple River up again after a steal. Corradi answered again with a pull up with less than 30 seconds left. Maple River won on a rebound basket by Rachel Streit on her own miss 28-27.
I will have more on the Lady Cat/Lakeville North game on Monday; and more on the MN Stars (Smith) vs North St. Paul on Tuesday.
Tomorrow night I will go through the college season with some history lessons.
