TARTAN INVITATIONAL
PARK-COTTAGE GROVE wolfpack 58, TARTAN titans 40

In the first half Tartan ruled. They put some distance between themselves and PCG with a 5/7 possession sequence and 9-2 run to make it 13-4. PCG cut it to 15-10 with 5:49 to go in the half, but went on a 1/9 scoring parched period and trailed at half 21-13. PCG did take a couple of time outs to trip to stop the experience, but it took half time to light the fire.

PCG scored on five of their first six possessions in the second half and had a 13-0 run to start the half. Tina Fisher scored two put backs off of a miss by Jessi Schmoll and then by Sarah Nohrenberg to get some fire going. Fisher gave PCG it's first lead on a lay up off a steal at 25-23. Tartan, meanwhile, opened with an 0/7 start of the half. PCG strung together a six straight burst in the heart of the half surgin to a 40-28 lead. By that time fouls were catching up to Tartan and the bench couldn't replace those people that sat.

BY THE NUMBERS
Park-CG 58, 69, 84.1, .464
Tartan 38, 69, 55.1, .275

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. PCG had their best time in the second half after surviving a rough first half where nothing was falling. PCG only made three field goals in the first half. PCG passed that on their 6th possession in the second half. PCG was at 36.1 pp100 in the first half; 136.4 in the second, 100 points better. The floor % is reflected with that as well moving from sub freezing .278 to a smoking .667.
Tartan also had a flip flop with lower #s in the second half, with 65.7 in the 1st; 44.1 in the second. Tartan was stone cold at .206 floor % in the second half.

All the PCG starters look the same---5-11 to 6-1, solid frames, perhaps not lickety split quick, but decent mobility on the perimeter. They are interchangeable parts. However there really isn't a true classic point guard, or true classic point. Their shooting from outside the paint was questionable. What was not in doubt was their aggressive, attacking of the basket. or their overall size.

Next up: tomorrow morning
