AMERY, WI warriors 48, ASKER, NORWAY 33

That is right, Norway. A club team from Asker Norway played a real live game in Amery, Wisconsin this afternoon before a jam packed audience. Every school aged kid from elementary to senior high kid was in attendance, not to mention the general town folks including senior citizens in wheel chairs.
The Asker coach, Robert Stenvik, attended Amery as a foreign exchange student 30 years ago. His daughter also went to Amery as a foreign exchange student.

The student crowd had home made Norwegian flags, the Band played before the game, the choir sang the Norwegian National Anthem in English and then the Norwegian team sang the anthem in Norwegian. Both teams lined up and handed each other gifts before the starting line ups were announced.

Amery drew first blood on their first possession when Taylor Luke drove to the basket. Asker opened in man and Amery seized advantage of that with penetration and feeding the post as Asker played behind. Amery led 10-2 when Norway took a time out. Amery scored five straight times in the middle of the first quarter, including a three from the right wing by Alyssa Borgstrom. Asker had problems with the press which Amery converted into transition lay ups. It was 17-8 at the break.

Asker had a 10 possession drought to start the second half as they couldn't crack the Amery zone. They were looking for gaps in the zone, but never really got it in the paint. If they did they were off balance and had to use a dribble to get their barings. Asker did convert four straight possessions late in the half on a 8-2 run. It was 31-16 Amery at half.

Both teams didn't score much in the third quarter. Both teams couldn't hit from the outside as each went to a zone. Asker went to zone and that seemed to hold Amery at bay. Amery was 1/11 to start the half. Asker closed the quarter 0/9 with their possessions. Amery led 38-22 at the quarter.

In the fourth quarter Amery used their bench as the starters didn't get more than a few touches early. Even so, Amery scored on four straight possessions to open the half and pushed the lead to 46-22. Asker closed with an 11-2 run helped in part by Caroline Lundegaard Hannisal's three 3s.

At the conclusion of the game both teams clasped hands, lined up and bowed to the crowd in a wave like formation.

I will fill in the player evals and defensive wraps after I get back from tonight's game.

The Norway team was not as strong with the ball, their passing was soft, and too far. Amery was physical and they dictated what was going to happen.
