STILLWATER TOURNAMENT SEMIFINALS
EDINA hornets 49, MAPLE GROVE crimson 36

Edina moved to the final with a 49-36 win over MG. Edina had more athletic talent, even if it was younger, than MG. MG led early up 8-4, but then fell down a deep hole. They went on a 1/19 possession drought and were outscored 31-6 the rest of the half. MG would miss chip shots when they got the ball inside, and MG didn't have the shooting game they wanted from the outside. Edina ran their flex offense all night and exploited mismatches. Edina led at half 33-14.

In the second half, it was Edina's turn at droughtdom. Edina was a collective 2/20 on their first 20 possessions of the half. It seemed that the game was well in hand and a lack of urgency, or at least, a lack of aggressiveness halted the Edina momentum. MG cut the lead to 38-32. Then Lauren Young for Edina made some noise. She scored on three of the next four Edina possessions with a 3 from the top right. the shot that put some breathing room between the two teams.

BY THE NUMBERS
Edina 49, 63, 77.8, .381
Maple Grove 36, 62, 58.1, .306
Both teams hampered by a massive droughts. Part of the MG comeback involved the post play and Edina came back to slam that door shut by taking away the high/low option. MG used too many players, even in the first half.
But both teams were looking for decent shots and that is why they were more controlled than other teams I have seen this brief fall/winter with only 63 possessions.
