JOHNSON VERBALS
Morgan Johnson of Platte City, Missouri has verballed Iowa. The 6-5 center averaged 18 points per game last year for the 4A team. She has been all state the last two seasons. From the Des Moines Register.
Johnson is the first known player from Missouri to verbal from the 2009 class.

D1 vs D2
North Dakota State beat Mary 67-52. Abby Plucker (Parker, SD) had 15 points for NDSU. Liz Simpa (Dickinson, ND) had 10 points for Mary.

Today Creighton faces UN Omaha in an exhibition. DaNae Moore (Eastview) is out with a broken hand.

Marquette's Krystal Ellis (Racine St. Catherine) is featured in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

NAIA
Graceland beat Ashford 80-70. Keturah Spotwood (Tulsa, OK) had 19 for Graceland. Michelle Woolley (Peoria Notre Dame, IL) had 14 for Ashford. From the Clinton Herald.

Kirkwood opens with two wins

The third ranked Kirkwood women's basketball team opened the 2008-09 season with two victories in Moberly, MO Booster Club Tournament.

Game #1
Kirkwood 61-Three Rivers, MO CC 51
McKensey Long scored 17 points including nine points down the stretch as the Eagles held off the pesky Lady Raiders. MyKenya Johnson added 13 points and seven rebounds while Alecia Wright knocked down three three point field goals to finish with 11. El Sara Greer grabbed a team high nine rebounds while blocking seven shots.

Game #2
Kirkwood 52-Moberly, MO CC 36
The Eagles got defensive with their second win over a D-1 junior college. KCC held Moberly to 31% field goal shooting (13-42)while using switching defenses in holding Moberly to only 36 points. Jayne Strand who will sign a letter of intent with Northern Colorado next week scored 13 points to pace the eagles.MyKenya Johnson grabbed seven rebounds.

Kirkwood travels to Quincy, Illinois this weekend to play in the John Wood CC Tourney. Kirkwood plays at 6pm on Friday and 2pm on Saturday.

Would have been great to be in Milwaukee last Saturday as three former Eagles met in an exhibition game. Univ. of Marquette with Lauren Thomas-Johnson and Brenn Hill met Winona State, MN and Kelsey Homewood. Tough luck Kelsey as Marquette prevailed.

On Sunday I received a knock on the door with a political canvaser reminding folks to vote. That person was ----Dana Joubert, former Gopher and St. Paul Como Park coach. I kind of freaked her out by reciting her life....kind of Twilight Zonish for her.
