USD Picks Up 1st Win as D1

D1
South Dakota beat Bemidji State 83-47. It is the first win as a D1 program and first win for new USD coach Ryun Williams. Bridget Yoeger (Hinton, IA) had 23 points for the Coyotes. Heidi Matzke (Red Lake Falls) had 11 points for Bemidji.

D2
Augustana beat Chadron State 102-89. Megan Doyle (Hanson, SD) had 30 points for the Vikings. Kristy Long (Sterling, CO) had 26 points for CS.

Mary beat Humboldt State 65-64. Maria Weigelt (Wells County, ND) hit a shot at the buzzer to win it for the Mauraders. Sonny Schulz (Watford City, ND) had 29 points for Mary.

Wayne State, Nebraska beat Colorado Mines 57-50. Claire Duwelius (Dowling Catholic, IA) had 19 for WSN.

Northern State beat Colorado Christian 63-59. Jenna Higgins (Maranatha) had 16 points for Northern. Abby Rosenthal (Cedar Rapids Kennedy) had 12 points for CC.

Hillsdale beat Missouri S&T 82-63. Katie Cezat (Plymouth Canton, MI) had 32 points for Hillsdale.

Dominican beat St. Anselm 62-52. Megan Howard (St. Paul Central) led St. A. with 12 points.

#7 Michigan Tech beat Lewis 69-30. Danae Danen (Ashwaubenon, WI) had 18 points for MTU.

Augsburg beat Ithaca 54-44. Christa Suedbeck (White Bear Lake) had 11 points for Augsburg.

Augustana IL beat Martin Luther 66-48

St. Norbert beat UW Stout 76-71. Morgan Strasser (Oshkosh West) had 19 points for St. N. Julia Hirssig (Rochester Mayo) had 22 points for Stout. Denise Heuser (Pulaski, WI) was named MVP of the tournament.

St. Thomas beat Puget Sound 49-42. Jessica Katch (Dowling Catholic, IA) had 14 points for St. Thomas.

NAIA
Ashford beat Illinois Institute 70-55 on Saturday. Kim Fabry (Oconto Falls, WI) had 16 for Ashford. From the Clinton Herald.

COMMUNITY COLLEGE
#1 Rochester CTC beat #10 Joliet CC 75-67 in the Madison Area Tech Tournament. Anne Breland (Rochester Lourdes) had 21 points for RCTC.

Ridgewater beat host Mesabi Range 72-64. Danielle Goeman (Maccray) had 14 for Ridgewater. Lea’ola Fields (Duluth Central) and Jessie Larson (Mesabi East) had 10 each for MR. From the West Central Tribune.

Iowa Lakes beat MN West 84-45. Shanette Stokes (Milwaukee Messmer) had 21 points for IL. Ashley Kirk (Tracy-Milroy-Balaton) had 20 points for MW. From the Worthington Daily Globe.

Kirkwood raised their record to 6-0 with a couple wins over the weekend in the Iowa Western CC Classic.

On Friday, Kirkwood used Alicia Wright's (Urbandale, IA) 18 points including(four) three point field goals and Jayne Strand's (Ames, IA)11 points in a hard fought 74-53 victory over Northeast, NB CC. Strand added a team high seven rebounds. The Eagles trailed 28-27 at halftime but outscored the Hawks47-25 in the second half.

Saturday night four Kirkwood players scored in double figures as the Eagles outlasted Iowa Western 75-61. McKensey Long (Carthage, IL) scored 17 points to place the attack followed by Jayne Strand with 13, MyKenya Johnson (Des Moines,IA) and Staci Gillum (Waukee, IA) each added 10. Gillum contributed six assists.

Kirkwood travels to Park Hills, MO for games against Rend Lake CC, IL and Mineral Area CC, MO.
