February 2 was a week ago, but I felt like Bill Murray in "Groundhog Day." The score was one off from the Tech/Apollo game, but, like last night, a post dominated the first half, and then despite trailing in the second half, the eventual winners came back behind the 3ball. This time the post was played by Kylie Gottsman who had 8 in the first half. The 3baller was played by Danielle Mangen who hit three critical bombs in the second half. Also, as in yesterday's contest, East cut the margin to 2 with under 30 seconds left, but Osseo prevailed at the line to take the nonconference win.

The game started with 8 combined scores out of 12 possessions. That is a scintillating floor % of .667 combined. That pace was unsustainable. Osseo soon found that out with a 9 possession drought. Only two of those possessions Osseo didn't get shots off. East went on a 9-0 run to take a 17-8 lead. Marisa Yernatich had 7 of her 16 points in that stretch including a three. East led 20-13 when Osseo caught fire. The Orioles scored on four straight possessions and they edged in front 21-20 on a 8-0 run. Gottsman started it off with four points. Then it was back to the freezer as Osseo had a 7 possession drought. East lead at half 25-21. 10 of Osseo's points came via second chancers in the first half.

The high water mark for East came in the second half at 30-22 after Brianna Larson scored after the third chance and got the &1. Osseo went on a 10-2 run to tie the game at 32. Mangen started the run with a back cut and tied the contest with a three. The game was tied three more times. East pushed their last lead out to 40-36 with 5:50 left after a Yernatich jumper. A Gottsman put back and a Mangen three put the Orioles back in front 41-40. There were five straight non scores combined for both teams. The difference was East had 3 straight turnovers as Osseo dialed up the pressure. Osseo missed a couple of 3 bombs on their chances. The game was tied again at 42 for the last time. Mangen delivered another back breaking three to make it 45-42. East turned it right over and Osseo milked the clock. Olson was fouled and she missed the front end. Kendra Ware kept the possession alive with a rebound. Olson was fouled again and missed again. This time Larson got the ball. Eventually she missed on three attempt. Ware got the rebound and like Moses parting the Red Sea she went right down the lane on a blown assignment for two to make it 47-42. The last two minutes were not clean. East wasn't aware of lines and misfired on a three. Osseo missed on a drive and turned the ball over. East scored on a post up by Reinemann and called time out with 1:07 left. Osseo was able to play keep away, or Duluth East wasn't alert enough to foul quickly. Mangen was fouled with 26.3 seconds left. She made the first, but missed the second. Just as before (a la Groundhog Day) Ware got the rebound. Marny Ferrara was fouled and she made the second for a five point lead. Yernatich hit a 3 from the left wing with 11.1 seconds left. Osseo put their top notch free throw shooters in and Jessica Fife left no doubt on two for the final margin.
