your daily dose of girls basketball news & information

MINNEAPOLIS ROOSEVELT teddies 85
ST. BERNARD'S bulldogs 23

In the only high school game in the area Roosevelt used their defense and transition game to race by St. Bernard's 85-23. This was a 4AA East game and Roosevelt left no doubt who should be the #1 seed in the East. This game had the lowest pp100 and floor % I have recorded in three years. Roosevelt is 13-10. St. Bernard's is 7-16.

There really isn't any compelling storyline in this game. Roosevelt clearly had better basketball players, better athletes, better speed, and a more attacking nature. At half time it was 46-17, 22 of those points came on transiton for the Teddies. Add 16 more in the second half and it was 38 total points in transition. Roosevelt also controlled the offensive boards. 12 points on the night came via that route.

Roosevelt led 14-0 after 10 possessions. St. Bernard's didn't score until the 13:01 mark of the first half. St. Bernard's had an 11 possession drought to start the night, five of which ended up on turnovers. They also had droughts of 9, and 8 in the first half. It didn't get any better in the second half with droughts of 13 and 19. It wasn't all transition for Roosevelt. They had an 8 possession drought in the first half.

MINNEAPOLIS ROOSEVELT
STARTERS
Suriya McGuire (10) 12, 18, 66.7, .333 long arms, good anticipation, was unhappy when she didn't get a steal. can get off the floor. defensivley came up with 11 steals. had a sequence where she had two consecutive blocks. offensively is slinky. gets down court quickly and gets the ball down court quickly. needs to finish drives. has a variety of moves, has good body control, quicky snappy passes. however she can over move, over complicate things when easy can get the job done. Kind of like Indiana Jones when confronted by the knife wielder with all his tricks--Jones takes out a gun a gets it done. Right now McGuire is more knife wielder than Jones of offense.
Kiara Strickland (08) 12, 12, 100.0, .500 lefthanded, plays paint, but has perimeter capablities. scored 6 points on put backs. outlets defensive rebounds quickly
Brittany Finley (09) 16, 10, 160.0, .700 perimeter player, recovered from the Jordan collision. had two 3s on the right side. moved to open gap vs zone. runs the floor.
Tyesha Wright (10) 11, 12, 91.7, .417 guard, 8 points in transition, runs the floor. had a 3 from the left wing.
AunDreah Aune (08) 20, 12, 166.7, .667 perimeter, 14 points in transition. nailed two 3s. runs the floor. alert/active on defense.

Jessica Smith (11) 3, 3, 100.0, .667

ST. BERNARD'S
For the most part this analysis would cover the entire team. Needs to improve ball handling/passing vs pressure. needs to work on shot at a quicker pace, not horse pace. all need to get stronger and faster.
