SARTELL sabres 62,
BEMIDJI lumberjacks 56 OT

This game featured a 8AAAA team on the road at an 8AAA team. It was home team Sartell that saw a 10 point lead evaporate late in the game as Bemidji went on a 14-2 run to lead. Courtney Tideman scored an old fashioned three point play to tie the game at 52 to send it to overtime. In OT Tideman opened scoring and again had another three point opportunity in a 62-56 win. Both teams now have a 9-3 record.

This game was tight through out the first half. There were 8 ties in the first half. The last time at 20 all. Bemidji's biggest lead came at 24-21 after two free throws by Kelsey Nelson. But then Bemidji had 6 straight possessions the last 2:27 with nothing to show for it. Sartell went into the break with a 25-24 thanks to a three by Sarah Schellinger.

The home team stretched their lead to 33-27 after a basket by Maggie Bryant. Bemidji had a four possession scoring string to take the margin to 37-35. Then Bemidji went into a cold spell and Sartell went on a 10-2 run to take a 47-37 lead. Bemidji was 1/8 in that sequence. Then the pendulum swung over to Bemidji's side as Sartell went into the freezer. Bemidji Started their run with two straight baskets by Kayla Hirt. The Lumberjacks ran off a 14-2 run. The Bemidji posts had 8 of those points. Sartell was a frosty 1/11 during the same time. Bemidji took a 51-49 lead on a drive by Ashley Hirt. Bryant missed a shot with 40 seconds left and Kayla Hirt snatched the board. With 35.4 left they took a time out. After that Megan Larson was fouled. She delivered on the front end, but missed the second. Bryant rebounded and that is when Courtney Tideman made her drive and was fouled. She knocked down the free throw to tie the game at 52. On Bemidji's next possession Alexis Gauwitz took a perimeter shot. That was rebounded by Tideman. Bryant took a shot under 4.9 seconds left and Kayla Hirt got the board. It was off to overtime.

Bemidji won the tip, but missed their first chance (and second chance). Tideman delivered again on a drive. Sartell scored the first four times they had the ball in overtime. Both Tideman and Bryant scored the first 8 points. Late in the game it was 60-56. Jenna Flynn was fouled, but Bemidji had their small line up. Flynn missed the second shot and Sartell got the board. This time it was Bryant at the line. Again she made the first and missed the second. Again Sartell had the rebound. That is the way the game finished up.

Rachel Wieme 10, 8, 125.0, .625 post player. hot in the first half. didn't have a lot of possessions later.
Maggie Bryant 21, 27, 77.8, .407 perimeter. good frame active. alert. follow through is yanked back. Needs to hold form. went to the line four times.
Sarah Schellinger 13, 13, 100.0, .462 point guard. a nuisance on defense. had four steals. moved the ball on offense.
Jenna Flynn 5, 7, 71.4, .286 post player.
Courtney Tideman 10, 9, 111.1, .556 quiet start, loud and clear finish. scored off the dribble. is strong enough to score when hit.

Nicole Grogan 0, 3, 0.0, .000

BEMIDJI
STARTERS
Kayla Hirt 10, 9, 111.1, .556 young post. strong frame. very active. communicates. gets on the floor. intense, alert. first one up and down the floor. in the thick of battle. in transition went behind her back when confronted by defense and scored the lay up. not too many 6-2 freshmen can do that. look at the defense wraps. 15--great rebounder. clears herself very well. Could play on the perimeter. didn't get enough possessions. defensively needs to stay lower as she bought some fakes.
Meg Claypool 2, 8, 25.0, .125 guard. forces too much. dribbles too much. needs to get the posts more involved.
Alexis Gauwitz 11, 18, 61,1, .278 quick guard. handled the point more often than not. did make a three. needs to handle the ball better. needs to get the ball inside.
Megan Larson 2, 6, 33.3, ,333 guard. saw posts open and didn't get them the ball.
Kelsey Nelson 18, 11, 163.6, .818 has made great improvements. has the best hook shot around. For some reason wasn't given the ball that much in the second half. She was on fire. Defensively could be more active.
BENCH
Ashley Hirt 6, 6, 100.0, .500 bigger guard. scored off the dribble.
Anastasia Molnar 5, 7, 71.4, .429 another big post. is
Janelle Christensen 0, 2, 0.0, .000 guard. needs to get stronger physically.
Abby Hendricks 2, 4, 50.0, .250 perimeter.

TRENCH PLAYER
Courtney Tideman, hard to argue with clutch performance to keep Sartell alive and thrive

BY THE NUMBERS
Sartell 62, 72, 86.1, .417
Bemidji 56, 71, 78.9, .408
made 3s: Sartell 2, Bemidji 1
ftm/fta-ft%: Bemidji 11/16-.688; Sartell 7/17-.412
bench: Bemidji 13, Sartell 3
The Bemdji inside game delivered solid results with a combined pp100 of 122.2 and a floor % of .630. However the perimeter play of Bemidji was only able to muster 52.3, and .273. What was problematic was the Bemidji guards spent too much time dribbling, and not enough time moving the ball. There were time when the posts were wide open however either the guards didn't know the posts were open or they didn't know how to feed the post. Nelson only had two possessions in the second half. She wasn't on the bench, the defense wasn't in front. The guards didn't get her or Hirt the ball.
Sartell, on the other hand, moved the ball quickly, sharply and effectively. This is measured by a 21 turnover mark for Bemidji and 10 turnover mark for Sartell.
