MINNEAPOLIS SOUTHWEST lakers 40
COOPER hawks 28

Southwest scored 27 points in the second half to come back and beat Cooper in a rare Wednesday game. What also was rare was scoring. The temperatures out side were plummeting (-8.3) and so were the shooting percentages. Since I have been keeping track of the pp100 in the last three years this was the second lowest pp100 for a winning team (62.5).

This was a match up between two 6AAAA teams and one of two contests in the metro tonight. Droughts were the theme of the day. Southwest had an 11 and 6 possession droughts in the first half. Cooper had 8 and 5 empty trips. It was Cooper that scored first with Capriece Ogris getting a rebound and a coast to coast lay up. Cooper broke a 4-0 tie with 5-0 run. There was only one score between both teams for five long minutes. Neither team looked polished. Turnovers were in abundance. Cooper was using a young line up as a few regulars were out. SW's turnovers came trying to feed inside. It was 17-13 Cooper at half. Ogris racked up 11 points by half for Cooper.

Cooper enjoyed their biggest lead at 19-13 after a Caitlin Stifter-Hennen rebound basket. After that for the next 17 minutes Cooper scored 9 points. Droughts were more severe for Cooper in the second half with 8, and 10. A 10-0 run by SW put them in front and in control. Melissa Fitz hit a three and then added a pair of free throws and a transition basket for the first lead at 20-19. Fitz had 10 second half points to lead SW. SW's biggest lead came at 32-21. Cooper managed to cut the margin to 36-28. The scoring ended there for Cooper. SW added four more to finish with 40.

MINNEAPOLIS SOUTHWEST
STARTERS
Melissa Fitz (08) 13, 19, 68.4, .263 the most talented player on the floor, but not her best performance. ball handling was haphazard, and lax. When she wants to she can take over the game. needs to inject her will into the game all the time. needs to be crisper, sharper, and value the ball more. handled more point guard duties. 3 point shooter with three made on the night.
Nakita Walker (08) 9, 12, 75.0, .333 left handed guard. has 3 range. scored on a drive. fade away shot.
Laura Maltby (10) 6, 9, 66.7, .333 post player. has good potential. decent speed. looked tired compared to when I saw her earlier this year. needs to get stronger. had a stretch were she looked strong in the second half with all her points delivered
Britta Syverson (09) 11, 12, 91.7, .500 steady, reliable strong on the offensive boards. 8 of her points came on second chancers. also the best defensive boarder for SW.
Micah Thornquist (11) 1, 2, 50.0, .500 post. didn't have a lot of clock

DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE
SW had most of their success when they doubled the ball at every pass in the half court. they used 2/3 and 1/2/2 presses. In the first half they did play man, but Cooper looked more comfortable with that. When doubled they were more flustered.
Cooper played man. There match ups (SW off/Cooper defense) Fitz/Ogris; Syverson/Robinson; Maltby/Keiser; Walker/Stifter-Hennen; Thornquist/Harris

Next up; tomorrow morning
