WRITING ASSIGNMENT: PARENTS
In Scott Venci's column in the Green Bay Press Gazette he writes about a paper Katie Braun of Seymour, WI wrote about parents and their role in the athletic process. Take a good look. This is required reading. Here is a quote from the article

"I think parents of kids who were on skilled youth traveling teams, and parents that have always had a kid that started, believe that their playing time and wins should have carried over to high school," Braun said. "I think they need to understand that eighth-grade traveling teams and varsity basketball are two completely different things."

POLICE BLOTTER
High school athletes were caught with alcohol at a party in West Des Moines. Two Dowling Catholic girls basketball players were involved. From the Des Moines Register.

COMMUNITY COLLEGE
Lake Region State in North Dakota has bright players. Five players are 4.0 students. From the Devils Lake Journal.

Williston State will be looking for a new coach once the season is over. Current coach Hunter Berg is moving over to the men's side. From Grand Forks Herald.

Kirkwood shot 68% from the field (23/34) in the first half and rolled to it's eighth straight conference win with a 107-38 victory over NIACC.

The Eagles led at halftime 61-12.

Kirkwood (8-0, 14-6) overall had six players in double figures led by Rachele Monroe with 18 points. McKensey Long added 16 points, Jayne Strand scored 15, El Sara Greer added 11, Lauren Thomas-Johnson scored 11, dished out 9 assists and grabbed 6 rebounds. Breann Hill scored 10 points and had a team high nine rebounds.

The Eagles host Southwestern CC on Saturday.
