LONG BEACH POLY jackrabbits 66,
ST. PAUL CENTRAL minutemen 51

The #2 team in the country (on the MaxPreps site) LBP traveled in from California and ran past SPC 66-51. LBP is physically stronger, and looks to run on every opportunity. Immediately after the defensive rebound the ball was pushed down court in a hurry. True to their name, the jackrabbits zipped down court.

LBP started off with an 8-2 lead, six of those points were on fast break lay ups. SPC bounced back and took a 13-12 lead on a 11-4 run. SPC used a 5/6 offensive sequence to grab the lead. The Minutemen used two 3s in that surge. LBP did retake the lead at 18-15 lead. SPC closed off to 18-17. Then Theairra Taylor picked up her 3rd foul just previous to that point. That changed the whole complexion of the game. LBP finished the half with a 18-6 run. The SPC bench did not measure up to the Californians. In the first half alone LBP had 19 points on transition, and 11 points on second chancers. LBP led 36-23 at the half.

At the start of the second half LBP rattled off three straight scores to up their lead to 41-24. Again transition was the favorite LBP attack mode. SPC did slice the lead back to 8 with a little more than 8 minutes to go, but it never seemed that the outcome was in doubt.

DEPARTMENT OF THE DEFENSE
LBP: played a full court man, but more of a nuisance press.
Central used a 2-1-2 full court press briefly. They used a variety of zones early. They eventually moved to man.
