MINNEAPOLIS 82, RIVERLAND blue devils 55

Tonight was a foray into the Community College world with Minneapolis having no problems with Riverland 82-55. Britany Johnson and Lakita Davis combined for 56 points for Minneapolis.

Riverland actually led 7-2 early, but Riverland had problems figuring out the odd front zone, never really getting in the gaps for free looks. They had an 0/9 stretch and saw their lead disappear. The last time Riverland had the lead was at 13-12. They then went into another drought, this time seven possessions. Twice during the half Minneapolis had 8-0 runs. Lakita Davis and Britany Johnson each had 10 points in the half,

There was never really any doubt in the second half to the outcome. Britany Johnson did light it up for 23 points in the second half. She had four 3s, and one old fashioned three point play to put her stamp on the game. Lakita Davis had 13. Riverland's inside game was a bit more effective in the second half with 20 points from Anna Havumaki and Cassie Davis compared to 6 points in the first half. There was a potential fly in the oinment for Mpls, not in this game necessarily, but Riverland did have five cracks at scoring on one possession.

BY THE NUMBERS
Minneapolis 82, 78, 105.1, .487
Riverland 55, 78, 70.5, .346
made 3s: Minneapolis 8, Riverland 2
made FTs: Minneapolis 10, Riverland 5
Bench: Riverland 11, Minneapolis 9

This is the first of what I hope will be more juco games. The players are a bit stronger than the HS scene. There is some quickness. A couple players looked very good with their shot. Of course more games will be required to get a better feel for what is happening. Minneapolis did make the gold standard in pp100 thanks to their 3 game. Riverland just didn't have the athletic ability or skill level like Minneapolis had.
