Richfield blitzed, and bombed Edison in a non conference match up. Richfield led 62-18 after 18 minutes. Richfield remained unbeaten at 6-0. Edison lost for the second time this year.

Oddly enough Edison led 1-0 after the first possession. After that it was all Richfield. Julianne Mitchell, the high scoring Edison player picked up early fouls and had to sit. Richfield, after a turnover on their first possession, scored on six straight possessions. It was 14-3 at that point and the route was on. There was a technical on the Edison bench, I am assuming on some scorebook violation. The closest Edison would get would be 14-6 with 15 minutes to go in the half. Richfield never had a bigger scoring run than that six straight, but they only had two two possession droughts in the first half. Defensively Richfield put the clamps down hard. Edison did not score for 18 straight possessions to close out the half. That was a 7:12 minute dry spell, a 27-0 run.

In the second half Richfield opened with a 10-1 run to make it a 37-1 run over 10:40 minutes over two halves. At this point it was 72-20. The game didn't hold any real drama other than when would the Spartans crack 100? Richfield passed the 70 mark at 14:45; the 80 mark at 11:50; the 90 mark at 9:10 mark. With 2 minutes left Vanessa Uko scored two to go up 101-40.

MINNEAPOLIS EDISON
STARTERS
Kwilajaa Reed 15, 24, 62.5, .250 left handed point guard. looks to score off the drive. when confronted by defense likes to spin. When Mitchell sat would try to score without the help of her team.
Julianne Mitchell 24, 26, 92.3, .385 has explosive power, however is still green. consider that she missed two years. Is strictly left handed. in the press went to the side lines and died. forced passes, and forces drives at times. needs to take the ball up the 1/3 of court. does have 3 range. also scores quite a bit on second chancers because she can get up. got into early foul trouble and had to sit. 11 points scored against the deep bench of Richfield in the second half. She does have some flair, but there is more to polish.
Amber Weston 1, 3, 33.3, .333

Keondra Mason 0, 4, 0.0, .000

TRENCH PLAYER
Who is THE trench player? In a drubbing like this one player is not the difference maker necessarily. Many, many Richfield players could rightly be named and all would be worthwhile and valid, some even on the bench. So the one today is Jaime Noonan. I don't do shared honors.

BY THE NUMBERS
Richfield 105, 82, 128.0, .585
Mpls Edison 44, 84, 52.4, .226
made 3s: Richfield 5, Edison 4
made fts: Richfield 14, Edison 10
bench: Richfield 37, Edison 4
At half Richfield was ripping down pp100 at 140.9 and floor % .636.
The pp100 of 128 is not a record however. That is still held by Adrian with a 129.7 vs SW Star in the section 3A South quarterfinals in 2006. Richfield is now in 2nd place. Adrian also has a .649 floor %--partly that is because they scored free throws on all their possessions in overtime that game.
However the Richfield has the top pp100 and floor % this season.
Edison had the 2nd lowest pp100 and 2nd lowest floor % this year.

DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE
Richfield used a 2-2-1 full court press that forced plenty of confusion. In the half court they used zone primarily
Edison did not press at the start. they opened the half court in 2/3, switched over to man, and then went to zone again.

After the game Edison ran end line to end line. I was told one time for every point.

ALSO TONIGHT
New Life beat Providence 73- 37 in the MCAA opener. Cara Lutes had 18 points all in the first half. Jenny Ramey added 17. Rebekah Schmidt had 11, It was 41-23 at halftime.
Ramey has a good feel for the game, has good anticipation. Zopfi had 8 and Esti Zimmerman had 11 for Providence.

Breck: 52 Mounds Park Academy: 47
In a very evenly matched game that see-sawed back and forth, Laura Neal hit a 3 with less than 30 seconds left in the game to clinch a victory for the Breck Mustangs. There was a big celebration for Breck's first victory and first year coach, Dean Stambaugh on his Birthday.
