MERCY, MERCY
Michael Rand of the StarTribune looks at lopsided games (mostly on the boys end) and what should be done.
Here is how to stop massacres
#1 do a better job of scheduling---that goes for both teams. What advantage do you gain from scheduling cupcakes and cream puffs? It gives an inflated sense of how good a team really is. Yes I understand about "hurted feewings" but just don't schedule a game to fill the schedule.

#2 the team that is getting massacred needs to spend more time in the offseason getting better. They need to spend more time practicing, drilling, shooting (game shots at game speed, not horse type speed) wether as a team or as individuals. What is really happening in the score differential is how much the players are working in the offseason. It is one thing to grease one scorer (like the notorious "record" a few years ago by a NYC player). Are you going to tell your players not to play? They have been working all summer on getting better. The deep bench in many of these situations have career days.

Any thing less is cheapening the game. Easing up and not trying your best---point shaving---gets people kicked out of sports. Is that OK when the opponent is horrible?
