RUSSELL SIGNS
Mayville State Coach Dennis Hutter has announced the signing of Melanie Russell for the 2009-2010 women’s basketball season. Melanie Russell, from Larimore, North Dakota, has signed a Dakota Athletic Conference Letter of Intent to play basketball for the Comets.

Melanie, a 6-3 post player, has been a stand-out basketball player over the past several seasons for the Larimore Polar Bears and has earned the attention of several Division I collegiate programs throughout the Region. Last season she averaged 11 points per game and 8 rebounds per game while shooting 52% from the field. She has garnered Most-Improved and Most-Spirited Awards this past season.

"Melanie's combination of athleticism and size will create many match-up problems for other teams”, comments Coach Hutter. “Melanie has a chance to be a very special player at Mayville State, and we are thrilled she had decided to continue her academic and athletic career as a Comet.” Melanie is the daughter of Jeanie Vigen and Philip Russell. She will wear #55.

Russell is the second player from North Dakota's 2009 class to make a college choice and the 1st headed to a NAIA program.
