VERBALS 09 & 11
Senior Alex Bentley of Indianapolis Ben Davis has verballed Penn State. The 5-6 guard averaged 15.1 ppg for the 24-2 Giants last season.

Sophomore Torrie Thornton of Carmel has verballed Purdue. The 6-1 forward averaged 7.1 ppg as a freshman.

Bentley is the 30th player overall in the Indiana class of 2009 to verbal and the 27th headed to a D1 program.
Thornton is the 1st player from the Indiana 2011 class to verbal, and the first 2011 listed in any state (that is covered).
LEAVING
First year player Tia Mays has left the Iowa Hawkeyes. The 6-1 forward from Des Moines East has left to focus on academics.

COACHING NEWS
UMKC coach Candace Whitaker has signed a contract extension through 2012-13. UMKC was 11-20 last year.

Hoosier Hysteria takes place on October 17 after the volleyball match
BUCKEYE VS BUCKEYE
It is former Buckeyes Katie Smith and the Detroit Shock vs Jessica Davenport and the New York Liberty for the WNBA's Eastern Division Finals.
Former Gopher Janel McCarville had 17 points to lead the Liberty past the Shock 60-56 in game 1.
In the West it was the Los Angeles Sparks over the San Antonio Silver Stars 85-70. Becky Hammon of Rapid City was held to 9 points.

Candice Wiggins of the Lynx was named the WNBA's 6th woman of the year.

The Kennedy Eagles are also undefeated at the Minnetonka site. JFK is without Alexis Holt and Bailey Lund at this point.
HALL OF FAME
Jody Buck Stefonowicz (1989-93) will be inducted into the North Dakota State Hall of Fame. Buck (during her playing days at NDSU) played her high school ball at Lake City (1989) and was the girls basketball coach at Luverne (94-98) and St. Louis Park (98-02).
