WI to AK, Becker Hires, German Team, Parkersburg Tornado

TRANSFERS & SIGNEES
UA Anchorage is gaining three women's basketball players including a D1 transfer. Viki Wohlers has left Oregon State and is headed north. The 6-4 center is from Conserve, WI and averaged 26 ppg as a senior. UAA also tapped into the Badger state for Jenna Endisch of Muskego. The 5-9 player averaged 14.6 ppg last year. The third player is Tamar Gruwell, a junior college player from Sierra (Calif.) College. Gruwell went to high school at Vacaville, CA.

COACHING NEWS
Paul Lindsay has been named the new Becker Girls Basketball Coach. Lindsay was the top assistant coach at Becker under Justin Hegna the past 4 years.

Assistant April Larson will be the new girls basketball coach at Shiloh Christian in North Dakota. She replaces Daryl Bearstail who resigned after leading the squad to the state tournament. From the Bismarck Tribune.

GERMAN NATIONAL TEAM
Hopkins senior Hanna Muegge has been over in Heidelberg, Germany from May 21-26 as she was participating in the training camp for the national U20 team for Germany. Training camp in the gym has been running from 8 am to 10 pm each day. They use the German spelling of her name: Hanna Mügge. The German team will take part of the u20 European Championships in Italy, July 11-20.

UM Duluth has released their women's basketball schedule for 2008-09.

MORE BASKETBALL ON TRACK
Brea Tinney of Osceola is headed to the Wisconsin State track meet in 3 Events: the 800, 1600 and the 4 X 800. Brea plays for Team Wisconsin Jr. Select/Samuels during the summer.

BASKETBALL ON THE LINKS
Sarah Novak of Cedar Rapids Washington is the school's top golfer and also plays soccer (Iowa has a spring season). Novak played with the state 4A runner up this past season. From the Cedar Rapids Gazette.

BASKETBALL ON THE DIAMOND
Karlee Despres of Comstock Park, Michigan picked up her 100th career win with an 18 strike out performance. She is headed to Davenport next year to play women's basketball and softball. From the Grand Rapids Press.

PARKERSBURG TORNADO
Here is a story from the Cedar Rapids Gazette about the aftermath of the tornado that struck Parkersburg on Sunday. Chelsea Poppens of Aplington-Parkersburg is playing with North Tartan Larson this spring and almost dunked in the Minnesota State AAU Semis a few weeks ago. Poppens has verballed Iowa State.

FLOOD
Williams Arena was flooded by a cracked pipe. The men's locker room and Coach Tubby Smith's offices were damaged. From the Minnesota Daily.

ALL STAR GAME
The 26th annual Columbus Telegram/Central Community College All-Star Basketball Games will be June 6, with the girls game at 6 pm. Full rosters can be found on the Columbus Telegram site.

The All Iowa Attack will host the 3rd Annual Adidas Midwest Girls Classic on June 20-22.

YOUTH
The Wykoff 5th grade won the Pacesetter Region 1 championship and are 27-3 for the year. Wykoff students go to school at Kingsland. From the Rochester Post Bulletin.

LYNX 2-0
The Lynx beat the Houston Comets in overtime in Texas 98-92 to go to 2-0 on the year. The Houston Chronicle says it is a new look but old results for the Comets.
